Description Performs a variety of paraprofessional work in support of library services in the Outreach Department. Works independently and as part of a team, often from general concepts and goals rather than established procedures.
Supervision Received and Exercised - Receives direct guidance and minimal supervision from Outreach Coordinator and higher-level supervisory positions.
- May exercise functional and technical supervision over volunteers in the absence of higher-level supervisory positions.
Essential and Marginal Functions Essential and marginal functions and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: Essential Functions: - Will be required to drive outreach and/or personal vehicle(s) throughout the community.
- Participates in programs and community events to inform citizens about district/library services and programs.
- Assists in building and maintaining partnerships with businesses and non-profit organizations in the community to promote and support programs, services, and outreach.
- Works in public capacity in the community; conducts reference interviews with library users in person or by telephone and assists them in locating materials and sources of information; instructs customers in library usage; readers' advisory.
- May work at public service desks as needed.
- Plans, prepares, promotes, and implements programming of interest to the community.
- Informs library customers of library policy.
- Interprets policies, procedures, and administration rules and regulations to library staff and library users; investigates complaints and problems and recommends corrective action to resolve complaints or problems.
- Instructs and assists library users in use of technology, devices, electronic resources, and other library materials; troubleshoots and maintains various pieces of equipment.
Marginal Functions: - Handles and resolves questions/problems from customers and other institutions.
- Compiles and maintains information and data for a variety of statistical reports; performs database cleanups.
- Attends meetings; may participate in committee service and special events.
- Participates in professional associations and activities; reads professional journals and publications; is aware of current trends in public library services; attends continuing education programs.
- Participates in library opening and closing procedures as needed.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Sort and file alpha-numerically and perform basic math computations.
- Work a varied schedule, which may change periodically, including weekends and evenings, may work in other departments or libraries as needed.

Work Environment and Physical Demands - Work is subject to frequent travel around town.
- Public service environment with a high volume of public contact, handling multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Normal physical activity including standing or sitting for extended periods. Walking over rough or uneven surfaces; frequent bending, stooping, lifting or carrying moderately heavy (up to 25 pounds) and occasionally very heavy (50 pounds and over) items.
- Keyboarding and working at a computer monitor required.
- Phone usage, reading, speaking, and listening required.
- Interaction with library users may include stressful situations related to enforcing library polices or resolving problems.
Requirements- Two (2) years of college level course work (40 college credits) or two (2) years library experience.
- Must have a valid Nevada driver's license, or the ability to obtain one in accordance with state laws.
