Calling all passionate individuals who want to take steps to preserve Little Cottonwood Canyon and stop the wasteful Gondola project that will cost > $1 billion taxpayer's money.

Backed by data and a team of experienced professionals, Canyon Guard is a coalition dedicated to safeguarding Little Cottonwood Canyon's wilderness beauty. We advocate for cost-effective solutions to traffic congestion that don't burden taxpayers or compromise the environment, safeguarding Little Cottonwood Canyon's majestic beauty for generations to come. Analysis done by our team reveals the Gondola project is financially unsustainable, environmentally damaging, and will not solve traffic congestion. Instead, our analysis shows numerous proven, lower-cost solutions exist.

In December 2023, our coalition partner, Friends of Alta, took a bold step by filing a lawsuit challenging the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) decision to install a Gondola system as the final solution to traffic issues in Little Cottonwood. We know filing the lawsuit was crucial, but it is just the first step of a long battle ahead of us. To this end, we are searching for motivated volunteers to support our cause. Sign up today and join us in this fight.

Canyon Guard is seeking volunteers in the following areas:
  • Outreach: Be our voice. Help Canyon Guard raise awareness on the wasteful gondola project by developing a network with relevant stakeholders, including government officials, non-profit organizations, local businesses, media, foundations, and the community. You can contact these organizations, put up posters, contact your network, make social media posts, or help us in tabling events. We welcome any social influencer's help in getting our message out. Anyone skilled at legislative matters can help us communicate with elected officials and government officers. Community organizers, please come help spread the words to your own organizations.
  • Graphic Design and Media Production: Use your storytelling skills and graphic design talents to help us educate the public about the traffic issues and possible solutions in Little Cottonwood Canyon through traditional media and social media platforms. We need help in creating a host of graphics, such as photo editing, website design, video production, video editing, posters and social media post designs, etc.
  • Legal and Data Research: Apply your legal knowledge and data analysis skills to help us perform research on transportation infrastructure and funding plans that support the ongoing lawsuit. Data scientists, transportation specialists, urban planners, paralegals, lawyers, here is your time to save the environment.
