The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide a full range of medical, procedural, and surgical care in general Otolaryngology to adult patients.
  • Maintain an active knowledge of the patient care process of the department of Veterans Affairs and knowledge of the medical center records system (CPRS).
  • This shall include using the computerized medical records in a complete and timely manner.
  • The Otolaryngologist is expected to maintain his/her skills at the highest level in all the areas of work which include outpatient clinics.
  • The Otolaryngologist should exercise sensitivity when dealing with patients and their families.
  • Assures physician to physician communication to ensure smooth receipt or transfer of patients.
  • The Otolaryngologist is expected to attend mandatory meetings and any other meeting or focus group assigned to.
  • Reviewing medical history and conducting a detailed physical exam.
  • Interpreting laboratory and diagnostic results.
  • Diagnosing Otolaryngology conditions and assisting and/or performing procedures in clinical areas.
  • Assessing and treating diseases of the Ear, Nose and Throat and surgical conditions.
  • Performing screening examinations and completing H&P's and progress notes.
  • Performing basic diagnostic procedures.
  • Prescribing outpatient medications.

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 0800 - 4:30pm
