Occupational Therapist- IRF

Position Type: Full-Time, Part-Time, PRN
Job Summary:
The Inpatient Occupational Therapist provides comprehensive occupational therapy services to patients within an inpatient rehab/hospital setting. This role involves evaluating patients, developing customized treatment plans, and implementing therapeutic interventions to develop, recover, or maintain the skills needed for daily living and overall quality of life. The Occupational Therapist works closely with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, case managers, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists to ensure coordinated care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient assessment and evaluation: Conduct thorough occupational therapy evaluations and plans of care for patients admitted to the inpatient unit, including assessing activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, cognitive and emotional abilities, strength, coordination, and overall functional ability. Interpret medical records and patient histories to determine appropriate therapy plans.
- Supervisory responsibilities: Occupational therapy assistants, rehab tech
- Treatment Planning and Implementation: Create , implement, and modify tailored therapeutic interventions to improve patients' functional abilities and achieve their therapy goals.
- Therapeutic Interventions : Provide direct occupational therapy services, including self-care retraining, IADL retraining, therapeutic exercises, cognitive retraining, patient and family education, and use of therapeutic modalities as indicated.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient progress, treatment plans, and therapy outcomes in accordance with legal and organizational requirements
- Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and speech language pathologists to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, discharge planning and case management conferences
- Compliance and Safety: Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards including HIPAA, OSHA, AHCA and Joint Commission guidelines. Utilize good body mechanics during all patient interactions and mobility. Ensure patient safety during therapy sessions by following established protocols and guidelines. Stay current with professional practices including continuing education, licensure and certification requirements.
Skills: - Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient in the use of electronic medical records (EMR)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Qualifications: - Education: Degree (Bachelor, Master or Doctorate) in occupational therapy from an accredited program.
- Licensure: Valid Occupational Therapist license in Florida
- Previous experience in a clinical setting preferred (not required)
