OS Administrator Linux Job Category: Information Technology Time Type: Full time Minimum Clearance Required to Start: Secret Employee Type: Regular Percentage of Travel Required: Up to 10% Type of Travel: Continental US The Opportunity: CACI is looking for an Operating Systems (OS) Administrator Linux to support the Department of the Air Force (DAF) Enterprise IT as a Service (EITaaS) program. The ideal candidate will provide Linux OS Subject Matter Expertise and be responsible for administration, maintenance, and sustainment for the SIPR solution on capabilities associated to the Linux Operating System while conducting performance checks. Additionally, the candidate will perform troubleshooting support for application teams as required. As an OS Administrator Linux, you will be directly responsible for the implementation of security controls, troubleshooting application errors, creating silent installation packages for application distribution systems, working with ISSO's on accreditation packages, managing both physical and virtual workstations, and providing SME level support for Tier 3 trouble tickets and meetings with Air Force officials. On the EITaaS program, CACI will deliver enhanced capabilities and services to implement and operate an enterprise ITSM solution, enterprise service desk, endpoint management, and security solution, as well as CONUS/OCONUS field support and life cycle support for end-user devices to enable the DAF to transition focus from IT operations to mission operations. Responsibilities: The candidate will be a Linux OS subject matter expert who will configure, manage, and troubleshoot OS issues ensure the proper security controls are in place. The ideal candidate will be a Linux OS expert with documented experience implementing compliance controls and hardening best practices within DoD. You regularly collaborate with other teams and stakeholders in this role to correctly identify issues, document processes, and test resolutions. More About The Role: Install, configure, manage, and maintain Linux OS systems in various environments (physical, virtual, cloud).
Install, configure, and maintain various Linux distributions on servers and workstations
Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls using tools like sudo and PAM
Implement and maintain security measures, including firewalls (e.g., iptables), SELinux, and regular security updates
Perform system backups and implement disaster recovery plans
Monitor system performance and optimize resources using tools like top, htop, and sar
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues
Manage and configure network services (e.g., SSH, NFS, Samba)
Set up and maintain web servers (e.g., Apache, Nginx)
Configure and manage database servers (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL and MariaDB)
Automate tasks using shell scripting (Bash, Python, etc.)
Manage package installations and updates using package managers (e.g., apt, yum, dnf)
Implement, and maintain Ansible automation solutions for infrastructure and application deployment
Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, and inventories
Automate configuration management, application deployment, and infrastructure provisioning
Integrate Ansible with other tools and platforms (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, cloud services)
Implement and manage virtualization and containerization technologies (e.g., KVM, Docker)
Configure and maintain logging systems (e.g., rsyslog, journald)
Troubleshoot complex Satellite issues
Provide technical support and documentation for Linux-based systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex Linux OS issues, ensuring minimal downtime for critical systems.
High-level troubleshooting of typical applications and their interactions with the underlying operating systems.
Maintain and manage Linux security features in compliance with DAF security protocols and government regulations.
Implement security best practices in Ansible automation
Optimize Windows systems for performance, especially in high-security environments.
Act as an escalation point for advanced OS troubleshooting of supported servers.
Understanding of storage systems and backup solutions.
Communicate effectively and collaboratively with customers, stakeholders, and peers.
Stay current with the latest Windows technologies and security practices relevant to government and defense sectors.
Document all processes, procedures, and configurations according to Program standards. Qualifications: Required: 10+ Years of relevant experience (Bachelor's Degree in applicable field may be substituted for 5 years of experience).
Must have DoD Secret clearance and experience working in a classified environment.
DoD 8140 compliance; Security + certification at a minimum.
Experience testing, deploying, and troubleshooting the installation of Linux OS and third-party software updates. Candidate demonstrates strong command-line skills and scripting abilities (PowerShell).
Candidate has in-depth knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
Experience with virtualization technologies used in secure environments.
Knowledge of networking protocols and services
Strong knowledge of Ansible, Linux/Unix systems, scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash), and general IT infrastructure concepts.
Experience with cloud platforms, containerization, and CI/CD processes
Experience managing Linux servers in a DoD environment. Experience working in a secure location managing devices on a SIPR network.
Experience with RMF and STIG requirements.
Experience with ITILv4.
Experience with Agile Scrum methodologies.
The candidate must have proficient skills in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Project, Visio) and SharePoint.
Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. These Qualifications Would Be Nice To Have: Experience with ServiceNow. Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
Active Linux certifications
Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools.
Familiarity with database administration.
