Optical Integration Engineer - R&D

We're seeking a mid-to-senior-level Optical Integration Engineer to support research and development of optical systems for scientific instrumentation. This role involves hands-on development, system integration, and collaboration across engineering teams to advance product capabilities.
Key Qualifications
- Master's or PhD in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
- 2-6 years of hands-on experience designing optical systems and instrumentation
- Strong understanding of optical integration, including lenses, filters, gratings, and low-light detection
- Experience with light sources (eg, LEDs, lasers) and detectors (eg, photodiodes, PMTs, cameras)
- Proficient in optical design and simulation tools (eg, Zemax), as well as data analysis tools (MATLAB, Python)
- Track record in product development, testing, and concept validation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to manage multiple projects
- Skilled in mechanical and system design tools (eg, SolidWorks); comfortable with ERP and Microsoft Office tools
- Experience in regulated or high-precision environments (eg, biomedical, diagnostics) is a plus
Responsibilities
- Design, integrate, and test optical systems for new and existing products
- Develop and prototype optical subsystems and evaluate performance
- Generate technical documentation, test plans, and validation protocols
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners throughout development
- Support transition from development to manufacturing, including vendor engagement
- Ensure designs meet quality, performance, and compliance standards
- Present technical updates and contribute to planning and reviews
- Travel occasionally to supplier or customer sites as needed
