We are hiring an Optical Engineer to own end to end optics development for Exowatt products. In this role you will design, analyze, test, and optimize optical systems for Exowatt's products.

What You'll Do:

  1. Develop and assist with new lens designs for complex opto-mechanical systems.
  2. Invent new lens designs for complex opto-mechanical systems.
  3. Provide advanced analysis and characterization of optical systems, including customized performance simulations.
  4. Conduct research and analysis to identify and address thermal challenges in our product.
  5. Build prototypes, test features, analyze failures in order to maximize outputs - continuously optimizing in order to never leave energy on the table.
  6. Create excellent technical documentation - slide decks, testing plans and reports, procedures, assembly, vendor specifications, and statements of work, etc.
  7. Assist in recruiting and interviewing efforts to help build our amazing team.

What You Have:

  1. BS, MS or Ph.D. in CS, applied math, optics, physics, electrical or mechanical engineering or related fields, with 3+ years of industry experience, or equivalent work experience.
  2. Experience maturing optical systems designs from proof of concept to production.
  3. Experience with designing custom lenses and optical subsystems with ray tracing software, including lens elements, multi-lens systems, and other optical components.
  4. Experience with establishing optical engineering specifications, including key performance metrics, optical manufacturing tolerances, and test requirements for optical subsystems and components.
  5. Experience working in a lab environment with optical systems and lasers.
  6. Experience with hands-on assembly, alignment, integration, and testing of optical components and optical systems.
  7. Experience in optical tolerance analysis, including mechanical positional tolerances and defining lens manufacturing tolerances.
$140,000 - $170,000 a year
