Apply for this Job

The position is to be an integral part of a wafer fab manufacturing engineering team for the fabrication of III-V compound semiconductor-based optics/optoelectronic components, covering laser, photodetector, modulator, integrated photonics, and glass-based optical passive diffractive elements in high volume manufacturing. This position will also heavily interact with R&D, equipment, production engineering and device level testing teams on failure analysis, process development and new tool/strategy introduction to meet the needs from production ramp and lean manufacturing.

Job Duties

  • Oversee, sustain and develop a diverse range of state-of-art wafer fabrication and metrology instruments for III-V compound process fabrication lines and submicron grating manufacturing to support both NPI development and mass production.
  • Design, build, setup and improve custom tools based on optical table setups, involving mechanical, optical, and control automation programming aspects.
  • Evaluate, develop, establish, automate and maintain various optical characterization systems for new product characterization and for wafer fab manufacturing.
  • Utilize wafer fab metrology infrastructures to meet all key production matrices including the line yield, wafer cost/cycle time, commitment delivery, lean manufacturing, engineering change orders, statistical process control/analysis/reports, work instructions, corrective actions, high-level production, training, manufacturing execution system (MES), process flow, volume manufacturing, gage R&R, calibration, and other manufacturing documentation/logistics.
  • Analyze, prioritize and high-level debug root-cause problems of escalated fab processing and characterization issues throughout the entire life cycle of chip products and perform failure analysis to sustain high yield from production line.
  • Evaluate new metrology and testing instruments and technologies, upgrade of existing tools, expend capacity/throughput and qualify onto production.
  • Provide technical support to production and equipment maintenance teams to resolve problems and keep metrology tools running well. Perform data analysis, summarize report findings, and assist epitaxy and process engineering team members to develop, optimize, and troubleshoot their processes.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will have a MS degree in materials science, electrical engineering, optics, solid-state physics or equivalent and 3+ years of applicable hands-on experience or a PhD degree in electrical engineering, optics, solid-state physics or equivalent.
  • Experience with III-V compound semiconductor wafer and device process, especially with III-V compound based or optical grating process patterning and its characterization (includes research experience).
  • Deep familiarity and hands-on experience with optical table/system setup, automation and system improvements.
  • Solid experience with Excel VBA macros, LabVIEW, and either C+, Visual Basic, or Matlab are required.
  • Prefer candidates with knowledge and experience with Critical dimension (CD) metrology, auto optical inspection (AOI), thin film reflectometer, step-height profilometer, resistance measurement, 4-point probe, scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM), light diffractometer, optical microscope and automated wafer defect inspection.
  • Experience with SPC, JMP or Minitab or equivalent, execution/analysis Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical process control (SPC) are a preferred.
  • Experience in optical thin film, optical characterization setup is a plus.
  • Strong problem solving, team player, able to meet project deadlines and communications skills.
  • Ability to support a 24x7 fab manufacturing, including being available for off-hour support and consultation if needed.
  • This job requires 100% onsite in San Jose, CA.
