Optical Alignment Process Engineer


Job Description/Responsibilities: The Senior Optical Process Engineer, as part of the larger product solutions development team, provides process engineering solutions in support of product development, NPI, and manufacturing of a variety of different optical product families. We are looking for an experienced Optical Process Engineer, with a strong focus on optical active optical alignment to work with a worldwide end-to-end product development team, to successfully develop and implement into manufacturing advanced Opto/microelectronic components, modules and sub-systems.

  • Work directly with optical product design and development team to provide process engineering solutions in support of new product development, with subsequent NPI and manufacturing support.
  • Support new technology research and development pertaining to optical process solutions. Manage projects and timelines in order to meet milestones on various customer projects.
  • Develop active alignment recipes on automated optical alignment systems for free space optics, grating, coupling, edge coupling, fiber arrays, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and analyzes process performance problems. Provides technical guidance to less experienced team members.
  • Provide sound methodical approach to troubleshooting and analyzing process performance problems. Supports new technology research and development pertaining to optical and microelectronic process solutions.
  • Conduct research into complex engineering problems to develop new operating policies, capabilities, and processes.
  • Assist the Process Engineering team to deliver on accountabilities. Takes ownership for processes under his/her control.
  • Help to create Process Assembly documentation.
  • Tooling and fixture conceptualization.
  • Perform qualification on new processes being introduced.
  • Implements and suggests engineering changes.
  • Research, procure, and accept new pieces of equipment for continuously evolving technologies.
  • Support customer NPI builds within tight timelines.
  • Provide DFx type feedback to the internal design team as well as external customers to help optimize manufacturability of products as well as increase yields and throughput.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 3+ years' experience in a Process or Manufacturing Engineering role.
  • Experience with active optical alignment of free space optics.
  • Experience with ficonTEC automated aligners would be a strong asset.
  • Experience with equipment programming (automation) on different pieces of equipment.
  • A background in the execution of "best practice" process control is required.
  • Understanding of operating methodologies in an electronics assembly environment.
  • Experience with implementing Engineering changes.
  • Experience with organizing and structuring file folders and naming conventions for reference.
  • Experience with Labview or other motion control software programming would be an asset.
  • Hands-on build experience would be an asset (handling bare dies or miniature components with tweezers, use of microscopes, camera systems, etc.)
  • Experience with laser welding would be an asset.
  • Experience establishing active alignment requirements and setup of eng bench type systems would be an asset.
  • Experience with Auto cad/SolidWorks would be an asset.
  • Must be able to commit to two months in China for training, have a current and ready to go passport with a minimum eight months on passport and the ability to qualify for/obtain a visa into China.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with DFM and FMEA would be an asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to speak, read, write Mandarin highly preferred.
