Job Description
Our client is looking for an Operations Startup/Commissioning Specialist for a contract duration from Q3 2025 until June 2026.
The project is a new oilseed processing plant located in Destrehan, LA.
This position will initially join the team to learn about this specific project, understanding the project and then the primary responsibility would be to check out the startup of different pieces of equipment.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Accountable for ensuring all commissioning activities are carried out in accordance the project procedures in a safe, environmentally responsible manner.
- Accountable for the delivery of commissioning activities in accordance with the project schedule and budget.
- Accountable for ensuring high standards of commissioning are maintained and continuously improved.
- Manage and direct the commissioning team and personnel in the safe and structured delivery of the project commissioning scope of work, ensuring all agreed objectives are delivered.
- Continually strive to improve / develop the commissioning process and practices.
- Ensure all necessary sub-contracts, vendor contracts and other support are in place
- Direct and track department(s) activities to complete audit action items, train employees and perform HAZOP's
- Perform HAZOP's including development of process information/equipment packets and leading meetings.
- Implement improved MOC system after recognizing an opportunity for improvement.
- Perform cross-facility PSM compliance audits
- Supervise project start-ups and interface with operations personnel to transition to normal operations.
- Spearhead plant activities and lead team to identify, plan and implement action plans.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 20 years of plant/startup/commissioning experience is required, with at least10 years in plant operations management within the oilseed processing, edible oil, or soy protein industry.
- Start-up and Commissioning experience is mandatory.
- Must have soy and canola processing facility experience, technology experience and be able to run the equipment and troubleshoot and train others.
- The position requires a self-directed individual with a high level of initiative and the ability to prioritize effectively. The selected candidate must be prepared to work an average of 50 hours per week and be available during critical business situations.
- Skilled communicator, with the ability the motivate cross-sectional teams, and communicate at all levels to meet business and regulatory objectives.
- Must have project/program implementation experience from scope development, cost/resource estimation through installation of deliverables, while interacting with an Operations team and providing training.
- Must have start-up problem resolution, process optimization and troubleshooting associated with larger project startup.
- Self-motivated individual who can work independently under little to no supervision
- Positive attitude & ability to work within a team atmosphere.
- Strong verbal, written and listening communication skills required.
- Work schedule could be 5 to 6 days a week/10 hours per day
