SUMMARY:

The 2nd Shift Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a food/pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This role ensures the efficiency of production processes, adherence to quality standards, and compliance with all safety regulations. Key responsibilities include managing personnel, optimizing resources, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet operational objectives.

Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday 4pm-3am, flexibility is essential, as the role may require working outside of regular hours to support project deadlines and evolving business needs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field required; Business or Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (food or pharmaceutical industry required).
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of cGMP and other applicable regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, DHEC).
  • Purchasing, scheduling and QA/QC functional experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of liquid filling and secondary packaging preferred.
  • Ability to evaluate and identify corrective actions related to compounding operations, filling operations, secondary packaging, yield reconciliation, product consistency, cleaning, operational deviations, etc.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and allocate resources effectively.
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word and Excel).
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of food safety and pharmaceutical regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to shifting priorities.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily operations in filling and secondary packaging areas for 2nd shift.
  • Manage the setting and achievement of daily and monthly production goals.
  • Strategically identify CAPEX for machinery to match production plan.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies, plans, and procedures to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Track and control unit COG's in alignment with business plan.
  • Create, maintain, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) governing food/pharmaceutical operations.
  • Implement and maintain strict adherence to food safety and quality standards, including HACCP, GMPs, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Enforce adherence to company policies, manufacturing protocols, environmental health, and safety regulations.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and improve operational performance.
  • Utilize operational excellence tools such as 6-sigma, 5-S, etc. to develop industry class operation.
  • Prepare and maintain production reports and other communication for senior management.
  • Supervise staff performance, providing coaching and corrective actions as necessary.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets to optimize resource utilization and cost efficiency.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the facility for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including cold and hot environments.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
