Universa Investments L.P. ("Universa") is an investment management firm that has specialized in risk mitigation since it was established in 2007 by Founder and Chief Investment Officer Mark Spitznagel. Spitznagel and Universa's Distinguished Scientific Advisor, Nassim Nicholas Taleb, together began tail hedging formally for client portfolios over twenty years ago.


Our Firm is looking for a detail-oriented and diligent Operations Associate to join our team in Miami, Florida. The role is primarily responsible for ensuring the Firm's trades are settled and having all appropriate fees and commissions accurately represented for downstream reporting. The role performs vital back office / post trade support functions and participates in projects and initiatives that will help Universa continue to operate at maximum efficiency and to further critical processes and controls to manage operational risk.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage T+0 matching and settlements across multiple accounts.
  • Reconcile T+1 cash and trade settlement.
  • Liaise with FCMs, trading and other counterparties to identify, research and track fees, commission and other discrepancies until resolved.
  • Review, analyze, and distribute internal reports.
  • Manage admin positions/transactions/cash reconciliations.
  • Monitor cash balances and prepare wire transfer requests.
  • Analyze our existing operational system to continually optimize efficiencies.
  • Partner with the technology team to deliver automated processes and other functionality and reporting.
  • Other ad hoc projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of operations experience at an investment management firm or fund administrator.
  • BA/BS degree with a strong academic record (preferably in accounting, finance or economics).
  • Full trade lifecycle and post trade processing experience in equities and derivatives.
  • Detail oriented and organized with an ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Data analytical skills (e.g. compiling datasets and identifying anomalies/trends).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, possess strong time management skills and meet deadlines.
