University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Department: Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes Job Title: Open Rank - Medical Director of the Adult Diabetes Division - Associate Professor - Professor Position - Requisition Job Summary: Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a full-time Diabetologist/Endocrinologist at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to work in the Adult Division. The Center provides state-of-the-art diabetes care to over 2,500 adults with type 1 diabetes or insulin requiring type 2 diabetes. This is a position requiring an enthusiasm for medical research and knowledge or interest in type 1 diabetes. A combination of previous clinical and research experience, diverse talents and excellent interpersonal skills is required. The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC) is the largest diabetes institute in the world specializing in type 1 diabetes research and care for children and adults. Over 200 employees, including clinicians, clinical researchers, basic biomedical scientists and supporting staff work at the BDC to find the most effective treatment, prevention, and/or cure for type 1 diabetes. This position requires enthusiasm for, and dedication to, diabetes clinical care. Key Responsibilities: Organization, planning, and directing of clinical programming for the BDC Adult Diabetes Division related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services such as utilization review, quality assurance, and medical protocol development. Assist in the organization and co-directing ATDC annual Keystone conference. Oversee the activities of group physicians and other providers, including the recruiting and credentialing processes. Develop a transition program from pediatric to adult clinic for ongoing care. Develop a robust and reimbursable telehealth program. Work with division director regarding finances. Provide direction and input to other medical and administrative leaders at the University. Develop projects aimed at improving the specialty and the department mission. Provide diabetes care to newly diagnosed and established adult patients with type 1 diabetes Monitor quality, access to, and appropriateness of medical care. Provide guidance for performance guidelines as mentor. Develop policies and procedures as needed. Participate in strategic development. Oversee documentation and care planning, working with IT and QI team. Resolve complaints from clinical patients. Address emergency issues. Work Location: Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below: Academic rank will be determined during the interview process after discussion between you and the department about your previous experience and academic desires. Associate Professor: Terminal degree in Medicine (M.D.) licensed to practice in the United States. Graduation from an accredited Residency program and 7 years' experience. Ability to obtain Colorado Medical License and possession of a current DEA Certificate. Able to be fully credentialed with the UCH system and UPI Managed Care. Ability to meet the School of Medicine's criteria for Associate Professor. Strong track record as Principal Investigator for clinical research grants (industry or non-profits like NIH, JDRF, ADA, or Helmsley research grants). Professor: Terminal degree in Medicine (M.D.) licensed to practice in the United States. Graduation from an accredited Residency program and 10 years' experience. Ability to obtain a Colorado Medical License and certified or certification eligible with the American Board of Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. Ability to meet the School of Medicine's criteria for full Professor. Strong track record as Principal Investigator for clinical research grants (industry or non-profits like NIH, JDRF, ADA, or Helmsley research grants). Preferred Qualifications: Clinical experience in caring for adults with diabetes and experience in clinical research. Completion of endocrine fellowship or one year diabetes fellowship desired. Demonstrated success in research, including peer reviewed publications, leadership roles in career development and/or training programs. Experience and enthusiasm for teaching students and/or residents. Experience with using an electronic health record system, preferably Epic. Experience with providing Telehealth/virtual visits. Several years of formal or informal leadership experience in a clinical or non-clinical environment. Experience in supervising clinical activities of peers. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clinic and BDC faculty and staff. Ability to work effectively on multiple tasks and maintain a well-organized work environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently. Capacity for flexibility and adaptability in different work situations. Ability to work well with diverse populations. Experience training and developing staff. Ability to meet clinic-specific competencies and expectations. Anticipated Pay Range: The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: Associate Professor: $215,000 - $250,000 Professor: $235,000 - $275,000 Possibility of incentives based on clinical effort.
