Background:

This job posting is intended to collect resumes for candidates who are interested in serving as a Press Assistant in an office for a New Member of Congress. Sample Job Expectations:

The Press Assistant serves an important role for the officeby monitoring national and local media coverage for the Member. In addition,the Press Assistant will work with the Digital Media Director, CommunicationsDirector, Legislative Director, District Director, and Chief of Staff to develop,release, and monitor media content. They will also draft press releases, mediaadvisories, and organize press events for the Member.

Sample Job Duties:
  • Serves as an integral part of the Member's communication team by monitoring national and local media coverage
  • Partners with the Member's leadership team to develop, release, and monitor response to media content
  • Supports the drafting of press releases, media advisories, op-eds, and newsletters
  • Organizes press events for the Member in Washington, D.C. and in the district
  • Compiles and disseminates the Member's daily news clips to office staff
  • Proofreads and fact-checks written materials
Sample Requirements:
  • Experience producing communications for social media and evaluating message effectiveness
  • Able to manage varying priorities and balance multiple deadlines
  • Expertise in conducting and evaluating research on public policy
  • Experience developing a communications strategy for a Member of Congress or Federal agency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop and apply creative solutions to enhance messaging strategies
  • Attention to detail
Sample Preferences:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, government, political science, public policy, or related field
  • Prior Capitol Hill experience is preferred
  • A demonstrated interest in public service
