Nurse Practitioner - Medical Oncology (Newport Beach, CA)
Hoag Health, the top-ranked health system in Orange County, CA is seeking a Medical Oncology Nurse Practitioner to join our expanding oncology program. In this role, the Nurse Practitioner maintains a system for coordinating caseload of care throughout the entire episode of hospitalization and illness, spanning each clinical area in which care is provided and manages each patient's transition through the system. Provides primary care within the scope of the Nurse Practitioner license with emphasis on health promotion, education, coordination of care and emotional support to the patients and families while combining the qualities of both nursing and medicine. Acts as a patient advocate in all ethical and legal aspects.

Job Responsibilities:
- Performs history and physicals
- Orders laboratory tests, Dictates/documents follow-up consult notes
- Documents in the patient record utilizing documentation guidelines, standards of care and patient goals.
- Performs follow-up at specific intervals per specific algorithms and protocols
- Works in collaboration with the medical and Hoag Specialty Clinic and Hoag Hospital staff to provide multidisciplinary care of patients.
- Provides clinical, professional expertise and leadership for patients, families and staff members.
- Functions as an expert clinician, consultant, educator and leader in patient care management, ensuring optimal patient care management and outcomes.
- Maintains a system for coordinating the caseload of care throughout the entire continuum of care spanning each clinical area where care is provided and manages each patient's transition through the system.
- Acts as a consultant in clinical setting, maintaining, and promoting standards of care.
- Phone follow-up at specified intervals and at points of transition in care.
- Ensure patient care is delivered and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional regulatory standards. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate population as outlined in the job description and competencies

Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Nursing.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Oncology Nurse Practitioner.
- Current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse/Nurse Practitioner in California along with Continuing Education Requirements.
- Adult Medical Oncology experience working as a Nurse/Nurse Practitioner or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
- Furnishing license issued by the State of California and personal DEA number.
- Current ACLS and BLS.
- Availability and appropriate use of consulting physician on medical staff for Hoag.
- Performs according to approved standardized procedures and/or protocols.
- Assessment of patient's status with appropriate findings and initiation of appropriate tests, medications and therapeutic interventions.
- Excellent communication skills; customer focused; excellent attention to detail; able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; strong interpersonal skills; able to work in a team environment.
- Proven excellent customer service skills, including the ability to progressively probe, analyze, identify root causes of problems, provide practical solutions, and negotiate resolutions.
- Solid computer technical skills required, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio).
