Job Summary: The Health & Fitness Specialist is responsible for leading multiple activities as directed, assists in executing approved programming in the health and fitness area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Considerately and patiently enforce Kroc Center rules to provide a safe environment for all.
  • Perform all fitness orientations, lead programs, and oversee group activities and trainings pertaining to fitness and health as needed.
  • Assure any emergency response follows TSA policy and clear and concise documentation is completed.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the fitness deck and facilities as directed by management.
  • Actively engage members and guests to promote a culture in which excellent customer hospitality thrives, all guests feel welcome, and events and programming are well attended.
  • Provide support and guidance as needed to Health & Fitness staff as directed by management.
  • Assist in the cleaning, maintenance, and inventory management of the assigned program area.
  • Ensure all safety standards are met and maintain certifications performing all in service requirements and attending all department meetings.
  • Assist with tracking statistical information and proactively providing summary information and reports to management as required.
  • Actively participate in community events and outreach to effectively promote utilization of the Kroc Center as assigned by management.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • Prefer at least 6 months of experience in teaching activities related to fitness, sports and/or recreation.
  • Experience working with adults, youth and children.
  • Working knowledge of general safety guidelines of fitness, sports and/or recreation

  • Good communication skills including interpersonal skills.
  • English proficiency required; Spanish language skills helpful.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Exceptional flexibility and ability to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate and work within a team.
  • Attention to detail, creative problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters
  • Strong independent judgement.
  • General computer knowledge is required to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR/AED/First Aid) certification is required within the first 90 days of employment and must be maintained on a bi-yearly basis.
  • Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training as established by The Salvation Army.
  • A minimum of one certification from a nationally recognized organization in the sports, recreation, or fitness field is preferred.

Provides frequent outdoor supervision of programs during spring and summer months. Must have the ability to lead activities that require physical activity. Other physical requirements include good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment. This position will require the ability to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions: The majority of the workday will be in a mixed environment including offices, service counters, and other program spaces. In addition, portions of the primary work facility may be considered humid (outdoor fields, areas) while other locations (gymnasium, fitness decks and fitness studios) may be considered moderately loud in nature.
