Under the Budget Director, the Administrative Assistant provides highly skilled administrative support for the daily operation of the department. The incumbent must be able to work well under stress and be able to handle multiple tasks in spite of interruptions. This position requires strong organization skills. Courtesy, tact and diplomacy are required in daily contact with the public and staff. Due to the level of management to which this position reports, a mature judgment and the proven ability to handle confidential, sensitive and highly volatile problems are essential. This position requires a strong work ethic, which will result in a high performance level-both in terms of quantity and quality. Candidates must also have a basic understanding of financial concepts in order to provide status of revenue and expense accounts. It also is essential to be a team player with the ability to influence the staff, in a positive way, to develop/maintain interpersonal relationships, resulting in departmental effectiveness and efficiency. Frequently, incumbent must use independent judgment and planning to relieve the Budget Director of many of his/her routine administrative matters.
