Occupational Therapist
  • Location: York, medium forensic hospital
  • Job Type: Locum (3 days per week, 22.5 hours)
  • Pay: £20-£22 per hour

We are seeking a dedicated Band 5 Occupational Therapist with Mental Health experience to work in a medium secure unit. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating interventions to provide patients with the skills and strategies needed for independent living.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Manage and coordinate the implementation of individual treatment plans for occupational therapy services, ensuring effective application and communication.
  • Promptly respond to referrals, undertake patient assessments to identify and prioritise needs, and deliver appropriate interventions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of each patient's rehabilitation and progress.
  • Manage and develop junior staff, ensuring clinical practice aligns with policies and statutory regulations.
  • Develop close working relationships within the multi-disciplinary team and promote therapy services in line with business objectives.
  • Lead the implementation of new services at your site and share best practices with other locations.
  • Ensure the services provided offer good value for money and support the overall aims of the site.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • BSc Hons or Diploma in Occupational Therapy with HCPC accreditation.
  • At least 12 months post graduate experience
  • Will be working on a male mental illness ward completing assessments and interventions following the occupational therapy pathway
  • Experience in an Occupational Therapy setting, with exposure to specialised areas such as addictions, neuro-rehab, or eating disorders.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and counselling skills to develop stable relationships with patients.
  • Shared responsibility for the serviceability of equipment and confidentiality of patient records.
