We are currently seeking a part-time Licensed Occupational Therapist to join our team in the Greater Danbury area. The Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT/L) provides specialized occupational therapy services to adults with developmental disabilities within Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) group home settings. The OT/L recommends interventions that contribute to the individual's plan of care, enhancing functional independence, safety, and health, with the goal of improving their quality of life. This role emphasizes developing individualized care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to help each person reach their highest potential . Our organization and funding structure allows our clinical team to build long-term relationships with the people we serve and have creativity with care plans without the complex components around billing. This position would require some travel throughout the day between local programs. The work hours can be flexible based on schedule needs - this is full-time 32 hours per week.
Responsibilities: - Conducts comprehensive evaluations which may include sensory- motor skills, functional cognitive abilities, and mobility as related to an individual's ability to perform activities of daily living, instrumental living skills, work, leisure or community participation.
- Collaborates and meets with interdisciplinary teams and staff to create cohesive treatment plans to support all needs of a person served.
- Adapts activities and environments to maximize an individual's independence and safety. (ie: assistive technology, modifications, splints, adaptive equipment, and alarms)
- Performs exercises related to upper extremities to improve functional performance.
- Educates program staff, families and people served on home exercise programs, therapeutic techniques, adaptive equipment and wheel-chair or other mobility related changes/usage.
- Evaluates and makes recommendations to address safety for individuals, ensuring proper equipment use to prevent entrapment, falls, or other injuries.
- Evaluates and addresses wheelchair-related needs, including proper fit, posture, and mobility. Collaborates with vendors and seating specialists to recommend and secure appropriate wheelchairs, cushions, and positioning aids.
- Directs in-house Therapy Support Technician to implement/modify equipment alarms, and environment to promote safety and mitigate risks, ensuring adherence to therapy plans, organizational standards and regulations.
- Conducts routine and quarterly assessments to monitor progress and modify interventions accordingly.
Qualifications: - Must hold and maintain current, valid state licensure as an Occupational Therapist in Connecticut.
- One year of Occupational Therapy work experience required.
- Must participate in continuing education activities to promote personal and professional development as per OT CT Licensing requirements.
- Must be able to travel to group homes and other assigned locations.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities (DD) or intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in a clinical, school, or community-based setting and familiarity with relevant assistive technology and adaptive equipment preferred.
