Requisition Type: Contingent Position Status: Full Time Position Title: Occupational Safety and Health Specialist Location: Washington, DC Security Clearance Level: Public Trust Duties and Responsibilities The Security and Emergency Management Staff is the primary support function for security related services to Executive Office for the United States Attorneys (EOUSA) and the United States Attorneys' Offices (USAO). EOUSA complies with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) while continuing to provide normal recurring security support for personnel and contractor security clearances, new construction, expansions, and renovations of USAOs, Information Security, Threats, Safety, and Emergency Management functions. It is incumbent upon the Security and Emergency Management Staff to develop innovative methods and procedures to provide EOUSA and the USAOs with properly cleared personnel and to provide them with a safe and secure work environment. Duties include the following: Conduct safety and health surveys and inspections of EOUSA and USAO facilities to determine if the designated areas meet accepted standards for the safeguarding of life and health of employees. Draft results of surveys and inspections to include detailed evaluations and recommendations for review and revision in accordance with the DOJ's component officer's comments. Assist the Department in developing agency-wide policy standards and addressing the safeguarding of life and health within the Department's facilities. Drafted documentation shall be presented to the EOUSA Safety Officer (Assistant Director, SEMS) for comment and revised in accordance with his guidance. Material developed must be in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Program standards as promulgated by the Department of Labor Occupational Health and Safety Administration. Participate in inquiries on job-related injuries or accidents or reports of unsafe working conditions and serve as the Office of Record Keeping for all work related injuries and illness for both EOUSA and the USAOs. Approximately 1,200 phone and 600 email inquiries along with 95 reportable injuries are received and processed per year. Conduct briefings, training classes and presentations on Safety and Health. Coordinate periodic Occupational Safety and Health Conferences at DOJ training facilities. Take part in special projects and studies affecting the overall safety and health of personnel in and on the Department's facilities and property. Knowledge and Qualifications Bachelor's degree with 4 years of experience or if no bachelor's degree, 10 years of experience developing and implementing safety and health programs for a diverse and geographically dispersed workforce. Expertise of OSHA and other United States Government safety regulations, analysis documentation, facility inspections, hazardous condition identification and proper corrective methods.
