Covenant HealthCare US:MI:SAGINAW VARIABLE SHIFT - 80 HOURS PER PAY FULL TIME BENEFITED Summary: The Departmental Educational Specialist (ECC, Medical Surgical, Critical Care, Cardiac/Step Down, Birth Center Division Educator) is responsible for improving the quality of patient care delivered through education and collaboration with the health care team. As a Departmental educator implements and evaluates Departmental orientation needs, in-services, as well as conducts continuing education activities. The Departmental Educator acts as a resource change agent, professional role model, mentoring new staff, assists and constantly evaluates nursing practice. This person coordinates departmental educational activities as assigned. Responsibilities: Contributes to organization success targets for net operating margin. Models Covenant's Mission, Vision and Values of keeping our Promise of Caring and Commitment to Service. Demonstrates excellent customer service. Plans, organizes and develops content materials and presents Medical/Surgical, Critical Care, or Step Down orientation class. Coordinates, plans, implements and evaluates orientation and training. Participates in adjunctive Medical/Surgical, Critical Care, Step Down or Birth Center education offerings as assigned. Develops education content in response to identified knowledge deficits. Monitors, documents, & follows-up on all orientees as assigned, remediates when necessary. Monitors, documents, & follow-up on mandatory education requirements for all job classifcations as assigned, remediates when necessary. Participates in hospital wide continuous quality improvement activities to improve performance and patient outcomes. Collaborates with health care team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate inservice education programs. Coordinates and evaluates programs designed to meet regulatory agency educational requirements. Designs, plans, implements and evaluates programs to validate staff competence and facilitates completion of the competency checklists. Collaborates with Unit Based Education, Specialists, Clinical Specialists and others to develop, implement, communicate, educate, and evaluate standards of care. Participates as a leader or member of key departmental and hospital committees. Serves as a consultant for educational activities within Covenant HealthCare System. Keeps abreast of current research and standards of care to enhance the education provided for Patient Services staff. Demonstrates effective proactive situational leadership while working within the framework of Covenant's mission, vision, and values. Other duties as assigned. Other information: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Current Michigan licensure to practice as a RN. Bachelor Degree required. RN with clinical expertise and demonstrated leadership experience who commits to entering a baccalaureate program within one year of hire or transfer and completion within 3 years of hire or transfer will be considered. BLS Certification required. NRP required in 6 months. Maintains professional development through seminars, workshops, inservice activities, and current professional literature. Minimum of three years experience in clinical specialty area required. Minimum of two years of education experience preferred. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Computer competency (Microsoft Office, Power point and Outlook. Knowledge of standard office equipment. Clinical expertise. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to work well with others and able to maintain tact, composure and professionalism in hectic and stressful situations. Utilize sound judgment in handling confidential or sensitive issues and material. Ability to develop and lead teams. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, lifting, pushing and pulling. Frequent twisting, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing and lifting. Frequent near vision, midrange vision, far vision, depth perception, color vision and field of vision. Occasional carrying, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and crawling. Occasional lifting 0-50 lbs. NOTICE REGARDING LATEX SENSITIVITY IN APPLICANTS FOR EMPLOYMENT.
