POSITION SUMMARY
Under the guidance of the principle investigator (PI) students will be immersed in an undergraduate research experience where they plan, design, and execute experiments. The experiments will assist the PI with gathering data for eventual publication. The students will be trained in various laboratory techniques including cell biology, molecular biology, and virology.
Retroviruses are RNA viruses that infect the host utilizing a DNA intermediate. Over evolutionary time, some of these retroviruses have incorporated into germ cells and became part of the genome of their host (became endogenous). Sometimes, these endogenous viruses can become released, causing a new infection. The Aim of this lab is to determine how the endogenous viruses become released.

For Laboratory Science Technology (LST) admitted students: Must complete, with a C or better, minimum of 3 science (instructional area of 806 or 506) courses within the LST curriculum prior to enrolling in your summer laboratory internship experience course.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Mobility: Ability to move around the campus to attend meetings and events. In addition, must be able to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery. May be required to work from lifts, ladders, and scaffolding.
Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in using hands and fingers to handle or operate office equipment, tools, controls, and/or heavy equipment and machinery
PPE: To wear and work in personnel protective equipment as needed
Heavy Lifting: Capability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 70 pounds.
Visual and Auditory: Ability to read documents and communicate effectively with students and staff.
