Minimally Invasive Procedure Specialists (MIPS) is a surgical model practice for Interventional Radiology. We run a full -service outpatient clinic and office-based laboratory (OBL- procedure center). Within our practice we perform minimally invasive complex treatments of deep vein thrombosis, non-thrombotic venous abnormalities, pelvic venous disease, uterine fibroids, superficial vein treatments and injections for various patient needs.

Within this culture the NP role is very independent, allowing the NP to develop his/her own relationships, while being fully supported by the physician team and office staff. The NP functions primarily as a focused and specialized care provider, with the support of the office staff and medical assistants. There is an opportunity to learn and perform procedures, with a great variety of patient problems and complexity to keep the job interesting and challenging.

Nurse Practitioner Job Responsibilities:

Clinical:

  • Obtains pertinent medical history, perform assessment and development of treatment plans.
  • Education of patients/families, answers questions and concerns
  • Performs physical examinations
  • Order, perform and interpret diagnostic procedures
  • Manages new patient consultations and follow-up care for patients with varicose veins, venous obstructions, uterine fibroids, pelvic venous congestion (May-Thurner anatomy), complex multisystem disease.
  • Places orders for procedures to be done in office, OBL or hospital settings by collaborating physician performing the procedure.
  • Provide education of procedures, pre-procedure requirements, post procedure recovery.
  • Medication prescribing/management, related to diagnoses that NP is managing, particularly anticoagulation management.
  • Triage and manage patient phone calls, complaints, urgent issues with assistance of Medical Assistants and office staff.
  • Responds to medical emergency including administering CPR or ACLS (In OBL setting)
  • Acts as resource for Patient Care Coordinators and Medical Assistants/CNAs to facilitate patient care in a safe and timely manner.
  • Treats all patients with compassionate care and respect and provides a welcoming environment.
  • All job duties and procedures performed must be within the scope of practice for this position and NP s certification and training based on the terms of professional licensure.
  • Provide documentation and demonstrate training and competence to provide specific services required.
  • Maintain values congruent with the Code of Ethics and well as adhering to national, institutional and departmental standards, policies and procedures regarding standards of care for patients.

Inpatient hospital responsibilities:

  • Rounds on hospital patients consults for new admissions/referrals, follow up on post procedure patients, includes documentation with consult, progress notes.
  • Formulates plan in collaboration with the physician.
  • Communicates with hospitalists, other consultants and clinical team about treatment plan/recommendations
  • Communicates with primary care provider at discharge when needs to ensure clear communication for post hospital care.
  • Arrange discharge follow up and communication with MIPS clinic.

Procedural:

  • Assists with clinical procedures including endovenous laser/Radiofrequency ablation procedures, foam sclerotherapy, and other IR procedures as indicated.
  • Maintains understanding and experience with surgical techniques, scrub/assist procedures.
  • Performs puncture aspiration of trapped blood for vein patients.
  • Wound care (with MA/CNA assistance).
  • OBL RN duties: Cross coverage in the outpatient procedure center as needed
  • Check in of patients, pre-procedure assessment, starting IV, fluids, medication administration
  • Post procedure anesthesia/sedation recovery
  • Patient discharge, post procedure education

Administrative:

  • Perform lunch and learn, community outreach for referring providers
  • Assist financial/pre auth specialist with peer to peer, appeals, letters of medical necessity for insurance authorizations
  • Completion of FMLA, work related disability forms with assistance of MA/CNA
  • Potential for participation in clinical research studies

Experience/Skill requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years NP experience.
  • Related clinical Medical/surgical experience strongly prefer ER experience.
  • Exceptional patient care and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education/Licensure Requirements:

  • RN license
  • Advance Practice Registered Nurse with certification (ANP, FNP, ACNP, AGNP)
  • Prescriptive authority including DEA.
  • BLS and ACLS or ability to obtain
  • Flu shot, TB testing, and all other requirements for hospital privileges

Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
