Position Summary

The nurse practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse that helps with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments, and consultations.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies.
  • Recognizes deviations from normal in physical assessments and collaborates to formulate treatment plans.
  • Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessments, diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and admission/discharge care following written protocols.
  • Initiates actions to facilitate therapeutic plans aligned with patients' ongoing healthcare needs.
  • Provides care appropriate to the age of patients served, demonstrating caring practices in a compassionate environment.
  • Maintains awareness of legal issues and patients' rights.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and resolves patient care issues to improve patient outcomes.
  • Documents accurately and promptly, including inpatient H&P and discharge summaries (reviewed and signed by supervising medical staff within 24 hours).
  • Writes or dictates reports and progress notes in the medical record.
  • Triages patients efficiently.
  • Participates in daily multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Collaborates with healthcare teams to ensure continuity and quality of care.
  • Maintains regular attendance and compliance with all policies and standards.

Other Related Functions

  • Acts as a role model and resource for staff.
  • Participates in policy review and revision.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Builds relationships with other health professionals in the community.
  • Communicates effectively with diverse populations, including physicians, staff, patients, and families.
Qualifications
  • Education/Training: MN, MSN, DNP, PhD, or DNS in nursing required.
  • Licensure/Certification: ARNP license in the state; national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board required after July 1, 2006; current BLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of primary care experience.
