Job Title: Nurse Manager Pre Op, PACU, and Hospital
Reports To: Director of Nursing
Classification: Non-exempt
Position Summary:
The Nurse Manager plays a pivotal role in delivering high quality nursing care. This role focuses on ensuring smooth patient flow through surgical procedures and recovery. The Nurse Manager will supervise nursing staff and facilitate communication between departments. Additionally, the Nurse Manager supports the organization's mission and values by acting as a resource for staff and leading by example.
Key Responsibilities:
Staff Supervision and Training:
- Supervise and mentor nursing staff, with a focus on enhancing patient care skills.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new nursing staff, emphasizing patient centered care.
- Manage staff scheduling and shift assignments to ensure adequate staffing levels for optimal patient care.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and nursing standards, focusing on patient outcomes.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Act as a liaison between the preop department, hospital floor, and other hospital units.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care plans and coordinate services.
- Maintain open and effective communication with all members of the healthcare team.
Quality Improvement:
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care in the preop and pacu departments and on the hospital floor.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance patient care and department efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and reports.
Direct Patient Care:
- Provide hands on care in the preoperative area and on the hospital floor, including conducting patient assessments, administering medications, and monitoring patient progress.
- Manage the preoperative assessment and preparation of patients, ensuring all necessary tests and documentation are completed.
- Educate patients and their families about preop procedures, expectations, and postop care.
- Address patient concerns and offer support and education to both patients and their families throughout their hospital stay.
Administrative Duties:
- Schedule staff and manage daily workflows in the preop, pacu, and hospital.
- Ensure that all equipment and supplies are available and in good working condition.
- Handle administrative tasks such as maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, and managing budgets.
Qualifications:
- ADN required, bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
- Current RN license in the state of Kansas.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a pre-op or hospital floor setting. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required;
Working Conditions:
This position works in varied environments including medical office, acute care facilities, operating rooms and recovery rooms, as well as potential for off premise work and travel. Regularly exposed to patients' conditions and some unpleasant sights, various odors, noise, bodily fluid and communicable diseases. Constant interaction with co-workers, patients, vendors and general public, which may involve individuals who are angry, upset or ill. Potential for stressful circumstances to occur.
Physical Requirements:
This position is primarily an action position requiring walking, bending, stooping, crawling, squatting and lifting up to 50 pounds. At times must lift up to 75 pounds. Potential for long periods of standing. Must have visual acuity and manual dexterity to interface with the computer and other facility operating systems. Must have auditory acuity to effectively interact with patients and public.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position; may require evening or weekend shifts.
