ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Educational Program Development:
- Develop and implement educational programs for nursing staff in the medical-surgical department using evidence-based standards and guidelines established by nationally recognized specialty organizations.
Clinical Instruction:
- Provide clinical instruction to nursing students in partnership with local schools of nursing, new graduates, and experienced nurses using a variety of methods, including but not limited to hands-on, case studies, workshops, problem-based learning, and team-based learning.
Assessment and Evaluations:
- Assess the educational needs of nursing staff through regular evaluations, feedback, clinical outcomes, and documentation monitoring.
- Implement strategies to address areas of improvement and enhance the overall competency of the medical-surgical nursing team.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with individuals and teams, including physicians, managers, educators, and quality to coordinate educational initiatives in alignment with organizational goals and quality/process improvement initiatives.
- Participate in hospital committees and workgroups as appropriate and assigned.
Policy Development:
- Contribute to the development and updating of medical-surgical policies and procedures.
- Educate nursing staff on policies, ensuring adherence to established standards and guidelines.
Professional Development:
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement; encourage and support the professional development of medical-surgical nurses through certifications, workshops, and conferences.
Patient Engagement and Experience:
- Foster patient engagement and satisfaction within the department and integrate patient-centered approaches into educational initiatives through first-hand observations and conversations.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Performs other related work as directed by immediate supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:REQUIRED:BSN with current OR nursing license and 3+ years medical-surgical experience in a hospital setting. A combination of experience, education, and/or training that substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: clinical expertise, patient-centered care, evidence-based practice, curriculum development, interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, adaptability, leadership, patient advocacy, collaboration, innovation, and cultural competence.
License/Reg./Cert.: Current Oregon RN License
PREFERRED:Master's degree in nursing, education, or related field AND current OR nursing license.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:Frequent sitting, standing, or walking. Must be adaptable, flexible, and resilient.
