Program Overview About The Role We are seeking a Nuclear Survivability Scientist/ Physicist to join our team. This position requires eligibility for security clearance at the Secret or Top-Secret level and offers the opportunity to contribute to technologies vital for national security objectives. Our team provides long running support to the Department of Defense, Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and develops state-of-the-art software used by warfighters and analysts, that model harsh atmospheric environments and effects caused by nuclear warfare. This includes the effects of these environments on personnel and equipment. What will you do: In this position, you will tackle complex challenges at the intersection of national security and advanced technology.
Your expertise will drive hands-on modeling and simulation work addressing research problems across multiple domains, such as space vehicles and terrestrial systems, affected by nuclear phenomena.
You will team up with our Scientists and Engineers in the development of physics-based environment and effects models that feed into our comprehensive technical modeling software.
You will have a lead technical role in our activities.
You will be required to expand your knowledge of different environment types and effect regimes. This is to provide an exceptional wide-based science-engineering foundation to our models.
An ideal candidate brings strong academic credentials in a relevant technical field such as physics, electrical engineering, mathematics, theoretical chemistry, or nuclear engineering.
You should be intellectually curious and ready to delve into specialized areas like electromagnetic propagation, high-altitude nuclear environments, radiation transport, and system analysis.
In this position, you will closely collaborate with environments and effects community subject matter experts to analyze, critique, and, when necessary, improve existing models.
You will also perform research and development within various subject matter areas to move forward state-of-the art modeling approaches.
You will be responsible for organizing and performing your work tasks.
You will contribute to regular technical progress meetings with our customer and stakeholder community.
Qualifications Required Qualifications Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
Demonstrated experience in nuclear weapon effects, environment modeling, and/or nuclear survivability.
Experience employing physics-based models and/or nuclear weapons software to determine environments and effects
Experience conducting and documenting V&V of physics models, algorithms, and software
Experience in software development with C , Fortran, Python, or similar language
Experience working daily in a team environment
The capability and wiliness to expand your knowledge and utility to the team
Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance (Top Secret eligible)Preferred Qualifications: An active and current DoD Secret or Top-Secret clearance
PhD in a Nuclear Science-Engineering field
Experience working with high fidelity environments software codes, an example is MCNP
Experience developing-maintaining scientific-engineering based nuclear effects-environments models
Provided oversight to a software development team modeling algorithm development and maintenance
Possess strong communication skills and a professional attitude in all aspects of the position
Prior experience working within a DoD/DoE/Government-related contract environment
SCA / Union / Intern Rate or Range Details Target Salary Range: $112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
