Bethune-Cookman University Job Title: NSF AGEP Postdoctoral Scholar Reporting Structure: Reports to the Principal Investigator of the Program and the Associate Provost for Research Division: Academic Affairs Job Summary: Bethune-Cookman University is seeking a postdoctoral associate who is interested in working at a teaching intensive HBCU. This position is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) as part of a larger Florida AGEP (FL-AGEP) project concerned with improving the pathways of women of color in STEM to enter the professoriate. The successful candidate will conduct research with a faculty advisor in the Department of Natural Sciences or Integrated Environmental Sciences and teach classes while honing skills related to culturally relevant curricula and pedagogical approaches to subject matter. Duties/Responsibilities: This position provides a unique opportunity to join Bethune-Cookman University as an instructor-scholar. The postdoctoral scholar will impact the institution through the development of a guide for new STEM faculty focused on teaching and learning (curriculum design and pedagogical approaches to subject matter), the integration of teaching and research, and mentoring of undergraduate students. While most teaching postdoctoral scholar positions reside in the arts and humanities and most research postdoctoral positions reside in the STEM disciplines, the position at B-CU is one where the postdoctoral scholar will have a dual appointment in both areas, which will allow them to hone their skills in teaching and learning, contribute to ongoing scientific research, and mentor undergraduate students. Beyond their research and teaching roles, the postdoctoral scholar will engage with senior faculty members, providing the scholar with invaluable experiences designed to prepare them for future tenure-track faculty positions. Specifically, the scholar will support the discipline-specific work currently taking place in the specific department and area, contributing to the overall intellectual vitality of the institution. The scholar will be expected to bring and/or continue research that can potentially engage students, while simultaneously experiencing activities related to course development, refinement, and preparation that will develop teaching skills and culturally relevant pedagogical approaches to content.
