Position Description :

The Office of International Affair's Texas State Intensive English Program seeks to develop a pool of candidates for possible temporary/nontenured faculty to teach Intensive English courses. Teaching appointments will be made on an as-needed basis, one level per term, determined by program enrollment and departmental need. Appointment entails approximately 20 hours per week for a duration of 8 weeks.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach one TSIE level, delivering engaging and level-appropriate English language instruction.
  • Adapt and develop instructional materials in alignment with TSIE program objectives
  • Maintain consistent communication with students, fostering a supportive and positive learning environment.
  • Utilize assigned or approved syllabi and assessment tools (where available), tailoring content to meet specified Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments and assessments.
  • Evaluate students based on established SLOs and submit final grades, comments, and pass/fail notifications by stipulated deadlines.
  • Demonstrate professional attire (business casual) and demeanor while promoting a collegial environment among students and colleagues.
  • Fulfill course-related administrative duties, as required by TSIE.


Temporary/nontenured faculty are appointed to teach one to four courses per semester. Teaching appointments are based upon student demand on a semester-by-semester basis. Eligibility for annual reappointment is contingent upon satisfactory annual performance evaluations during the term period, in addition to continuity of funding and departmental need. Required Qualifications:

  • A BA or Certificate in TESOL is required.
  • College level teaching experiences.
  • Native-like English language proficiency.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching ESL (e.g., teaching evaluations).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in TESOL or related field.
  • Prior teaching experience in an intensive English program or an academic ESL/EFL program.
