The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state. The Night Shift Supervisor is responsible for the coordination and supervision of residential services to assigned homes on the night shift. Responsibilities include individual care; staff supervision; coordination and training; living environment; operational activities; program monitoring; and support services relations. The Night Shift Supervisor has line authority over all DSP series staff working at the homes assigned to him/her. In addition, the Night Shift Supervisor will assist in unusual incidents and special investigations as assigned. He/she will coordinate staff coverage and perform direct contact duties as needed. Hours and shifts are flexible to ensure effective unit operations. The Night Shift Supervisor is hired and supervised by the Unit Director. Within one year of hire must be a certified instructor for Safe Use of Restraint (SUR) and CPR. This position may be required to drive a state-owned vehicle. This position will work four (4) 10-hour days, with a shift of 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Essential Job Functions (EJFs): Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. May serve in an on-call status on a rotating schedule as required to meet operational needs of the facility. Ensures acceptable level of residential care services. Ensures environment is safe, clean, and homelike. Ensures proper and timely reporting of unusual incidents, such as fires, abuse, serious injuries, missing person and other problems of this nature. Ensures that operational activities are completed with assigned areas to maintain effective delivery of services. Supervises home staff to effectively utilize resources. Ensures completion of appropriate required individuals' records to meet facility standards. Promotes and facilitates communication between night shift employees and unit management staff, other shifts and other service areas. Ensures individuals are involved in programs and activities as per their schedule to provide maximum development of skills and independence. Ensures completion of physical/nutritional management program requirements by assigned staff. Provides assistance in transporting of individuals going on scheduled activities and in emergency situations, as needed. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of Physical Management Programming, Behavior Therapy training and Safe Use of Restraint (SUR) techniques. Demonstrated ability to communicate with others orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to organize supervisory workload, motivate and direct DSP Staff. Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with co-workers. Demonstrated ability to use good judgment with dealing with unusual incidents. Knowledge of Positive Performance Program and facility OPM. Ability to train staff in job related subject areas. General knowledge of ICF/IID standards. Physical ability to perform direct contact duties and to complete regular rounds over a wide area. Physical ability to perform Safe Use of Restraint (SUR) and CPR. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications: Valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date, is required or preferred. Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy. Initial Screening Criteria: High school diploma or GED is preferred. Two (2) years' experience working in the field related to this position (working with people with developmental and/or physical disabilities). Experience in a supervisory role. Additional Information: Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities (LEIE). Males between the ages of 18 - 25 must be registered with the Selective Service. All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing. Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
