TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Year Round (3:30 pm - 12:00 am), 30-minute lunch
EVALUATION: Annually, based on job performance criteria, enthusiasm and effort
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Consistent and punctual attendance at the work site is an essential function of this job
- Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each day and for determining that all doors and windows are secured and all lights (except those left on for safety reasons) are turned off
- Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalk, driveways, and play areas (if elementary) neat and clean at all times
- Ability to handle mechanical functions of the building
- Maintains a regular service schedule on all motors, mechanical equipment, ballasts, and lights
- Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity
- Shovels, plows, and/or sands sidewalks, driveways, parking areas and steps as necessary
- Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are operating properly
- Raises and lowers the U.S. and Nebraska flag as needed
- Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture
- Clean corridors during the day as often as is required
- Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors daily; cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains
- Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice a year and more frequently if necessary to remove dirt and debris
- Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation. Wax and refinish floors as needed at least once per year.
- Cleans all chalkboards/whiteboards at least once a week
- Moves furniture and equipment within buildings as required for various activities as directed by the principal
- Makes minor building repairs as needed.
- Reports major repairs promptly to the building principal through maintenance requests
- Performs cleaning duties outside the school building (and on school grounds) as necessary to maintain the facility in a safe and attractive condition
- Reports immediately to the building principal any damage to school property
- Collaborates with other custodians and building staff to proactively address building issues
- Communicates effectively with colleagues and reports daily to the building supervisor
- Assists other custodians as needed (or applicable) with special building events such as music programs, community functions with the building, or athletic contests in the gym
- Remains on the school premises when the use of the building has been authorized and their attendance is required by the principal
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors
