POSITION: News intern

DIVISION: News (radio, television, print/web)

REPORTS TO: Senior producer

CLASSIFICATION: Nonexempt

PAY: $15.50 per hour

Do you want to learn the skills to become a successful multi-platform journalist in an award-winning newsroom? WXXI News is seeking a motivated intern to work alongside our seasoned journalists on daily stories and digital projects.

As an intern, you will learn our newsroom operation, standards, and tech - a multimedia journalism bootcamp. After that, you'll be working with our talented team in the production of daily news and enterprise journalism for our various platforms. WXXI journalists wear a lot of hats, and your day could include covering a press conference at City Hall, doing research for our 2025 elections coverage, or assisting in the production of one of our live radio shows.

Responsibilities

Newsgathering: research, pre-interviews and interviews, fact checking

Production: recording and editing audio and video in Adobe Suite

Writing: broadcast scripts and web copy

Attend newsroom meetings

Assist reporters in field production as needed

Cover daily stories as assigned

Shadow other departments at WXXI

Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Requirements

Undergraduate student, currently enrolled in a college program

Journalism/communications or English majors preferred

Some experience creating audio or visual digital content

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Transportation to WXXI studios and news events as necessary

Flexibility to work two 5-hour shifts per week

Knowledge of social media platforms, including Instagram

Salary/Benefits

Paid internship $15.50 per hour
