Essential Function

This individual will provide field network technical support through OneNet Statewide Network. This individual will be responsible for the setting up of new subscribers on the network as well as providing technical support for existing subscribers and performing maintenance tasks on network and facility equipment.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Install and trouble shoot all circuits that provide connectivity for OneNet.

• Establish telnet or console connections to Juniper and various other vendor equipment.

• Maintain a vehicle log including vehicle mileage and maintenance records for monthly review

• Safely operate a state-owned work vehicle for extended periods of time to and from job sites.

• Manage and maintain digital work tickets through Project Management software to document performed work, observations made, resolutions to the task, and pictures for future reference.

• Work closely with subscribers on the phone or in person as the face of OneNet. Answering subscriber questions, providing basic guidance, and communicating effectively while troubleshooting issues on site.

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility equipment including router and optical equipment, and OneNet mechanical equipment including backup generators, DC power Plants, Uninterruptable power supplies, and HVAC systems.

• Assist in a team effort to monitor the statewide network around the clock.

• Coordinate with telecommunication companies to troubleshoot problems with client circuits.

• Lead technician for configuration, management, and upgrades to software and hardware at hub sites including routing and facility monitoring equipment (security and environmental).

• Assist with locating fiber optic cable.

• Perform preventative maintenance at all OneNet sites, including vegetation abatement, site cleanliness, and upkeep.

• Build cables for appropriate applications.

• Provide quality assurance testing for services delivered to subscribers. (I.E. Bandwidth testing, RFC 2544 testing, and OTDR fiber testing.)

• Other similar duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required. Four (4) years of related work experience or a combination of related work experience and postsecondary education required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with subscribers on the telephone and in-person required. Must hold a valid Oklahoma driver's license. Some extended hours including evenings and weekends for emergency maintenance are required. Some nighttime travel required. Knowledge of basic electronics and telecommunications required. The employee must be available by phone before, after and during regular office hours and must provide his/her own cell phone and cell phone service. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with subscribers on the telephone and in-person to answer questions on service delivery, determine connectivity issues, or provide basic guidance.

Preferred Qualifications

Working experience with Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks, mechanical equipment, and the telephone industry highly preferred. An understanding of TCP/IP communications preferred.

Supervision

The employee performs work under the supervision of the Project Manager.

Work Hours
Agency offices are open to the public from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. Monday through Friday. These are the normal office hours for Agency employees.

Physical Demands

Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Exhibit manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate a computer, keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels, with or without aids. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to drive for extended periods of time during daylight and night time. Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds (on occasion up to 100pounds in a team lift), to bend, crawl, stoop, climb stairs or ladders, walk and reach. The ability to perform cable locates in rough, unimproved terrain is requiredMust use the proper manual handling equipment including but not limited to dollies, carts and lift team members.
