POSITION: Network Systems Administrator
LOCATION: Bangor and Kalamazoo, MI
JOB SUMMARY The Network Systems Administrator will be responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and reliable operation of computer networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and other network-related systems. They will ensure that network hardware and software are properly maintained and function correctly. The role involves leading network-related projects, troubleshooting network issues, and ensuring network security and efficiency. The person in this role should be adept at resolving network issues promptly, effectively, and can communicate and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and users to support Getman's technology infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES - Design, deploy, manage, and troubleshoot network infrastructure.
- Supports the administration, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of operating systems and related software. Upgrade systems with new releases and models.
- Manage and maintain virtual environment (VMware, EXSI).
- Administer and maintain all servers, including virus protection, system updates and other 3rd party applications.
- Monitor network performance to ensure system availability and reliability.
- Install and configure network hardware and software, including switches, routers, access points, and firewalls.
- Manage and monitor network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
- Plan and execute network system upgrades, including hardware and software updates, to maintain optimal performance and support organizational growth.
- Establish and maintain network policies, procedures, and standards.
- Develop and maintain a backup and disaster recovery plan for network systems.
- Configure and manage virtual private networks (VPNs) for remote access and site to site VPNs.
- Document network configurations, architectures, and processes.
- Train staff on network protocols and technologies.
- Stay updated with the latest network technologies and advancements.
- Assist IT Support Specialist by providing technical support for system users. Helping our employees with their day-to-day computer and network problems.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE - BSc/Ba in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline; professional certification (e.g., Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Network+) is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Network Administrator or in a similar role.
- Experience managing a virtual environment. Experience maintaining VMware ESXi hosts and virtual machines (VMs) preferred.
- Experience with network security practices, intrusion detection systems and data disaster recovery/backup. Experience with SentinelOne antivirus and Veeam BU/DR preferred.
SKILLS, TALENTS AND/OR CHARACTERISTICS - Solid understanding of network systems (LAN/WAN, firewalls, VPN, switches, etc.). Experience with Cisco products preferred.
- Knowledge of network protocols and services (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
- Ability to create and manage network scripts using languages such as Python or PowerShell.
