In this position, you will design, configure, and troubleshoot the NASA enterprise network infrastructure, emphasizing Wi-Fi technologies. Your expertise in RF principles, wireless protocols, and Cisco wireless solutions will be vital to ensuring top-notch performance and security.

You will utilize tools like Cisco Catalyst Center, Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), and Splunk for network management, access control, and analysis, ensuring our NASA Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) supports efficiency and safety. This is a hybrid role; however, to meet customer requirements, you must reside within a 50-mile vicinity of any NASA facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leverage extensive knowledge of Catalyst-based wireless architectures, including FlexConnect, Bridge Mode, and particularly Fabric Enabled Wireless (SD-Access Wireless).
  • Create robust, scalable, and secure wireless network designs addressing NASA's evolving business needs through thorough requirements gathering and collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
  • Employ Ekahau software to produce predictive models and heatmaps, ensuring optimal wireless network performance.
  • Determine ideal access point placement and RF coverage for varied environments.
  • Manage Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) for enforcing network access controls in both wired and wireless settings.
  • Troubleshoot network incidents promptly to minimize downtime and business impact.
  • Oversee network configuration, performance, and inventory through Cisco Catalyst Center (DNAC).
  • Develop custom Splunk dashboards for monitoring network incidents, performance metrics, and security events.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, processes, and troubleshooting protocols.
  • Advise government customers on best practices for network infrastructure operation and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with NASA customers, technicians, and other engineers to execute network design modifications and resolve customer-impacting issues.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Cyber Security, or related field.
  • 10 - 15 years of experience in WLAN and LAN wired networks for large enterprises.
  • Professional knowledge of Wi-Fi technologies (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax standards).
  • In-depth experience with Cisco wireless infrastructure, including access points and management tools (Prime Infrastructure, Catalyst Center).
  • Proficiency in performing site surveys and updating Wireless RF designs using Ekahau or similar software.
  • Strong understanding of LAN technologies, including PoE standards and SD-Access topologies.
  • Knowledge of Cisco routing & switching, multicast, and QoS.
  • Experience deploying QoS in wireless settings.
  • Hands-on experience with NAC using dot1x for both wired and wireless environments.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant certifications such as CWNA, CWDP, CWSP, CWNE, CCNP Enterprise (Wireless Design/Implementation), or CCIE Enterprise Wireless.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Public Trust clearance.
Desired Skills:
  • Experience with fabric wireless (SD-Access Wireless).
  • Expertise in Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) for network security.
  • Proficiency with Splunk for log management and analysis.
  • Advanced understanding of networking protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP, MPLS, QoS, IPSec).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for diagnosing complex issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and mentor other network engineers.
  • Familiarity with SD-WAN solutions and network automation tools (Ansible, Terraform).
  • Solid understanding of RF principles.
  • Additional certifications related to Security and Routing/Switching are a plus.
This role is essential for maintaining the integrity and performance of NASA's network architecture. We welcome your application.
