Job Description

This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting a network dedicated to transit-related initiatives. Responsibilities include identifying and leading the resolution of problems, monitoring performance, and ensuring optimal network operation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced knowledge and proficiency in maintaining and managing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), which encompass traffic signal networking, connected vehicle technology, and transit communication networks.

The client operates a 24/7 information technology environment. Applicants must be willing to perform duties as required by the job, which may include work during nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as overtime hours when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

- Design, implement, and support networking for Intelligent Transportation Systems, including advanced traffic signal controllers, adaptive signal control, and transit signal priority (TSP) systems.

- Maintain a network dedicated to all transit-related initiatives at optimal operating levels, including solution design, implementation, administration, and support.

- Monitor network performance and health, addressing any issues that arise promptly.

- Collaborate with third parties to provide secure and approved access as needed to fulfill business requirements.

- Oversee complex network designs, including routing, hardware, and software components, ensuring compliance with established standards.

- Provide engineering oversight for complex network projects to enhance overall network health and performance.

- Coordinate and communicate with stakeholders to ensure customer needs are met effectively.

- Provide training for support staff as necessary.

- Ensure compliance with the change control process.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- A combination of education and experience that prepares the incumbent to perform the duties of the position effectively. Candidates typically have a minimum of 6 years of experience in networking services, with demonstrated experience in Cisco products, enterprise networking environments, and network performance monitoring tools, including software-defined networking.

- Successful candidates will also possess the ability to communicate complex technical material to both technical and non-technical audiences and analyze complex information to solve difficult problems.

- Experience with ITS networking and communication protocols, including the National Transportation Communications for Intelligent Transportation System Protocol (NTCIP) standards for traffic control devices.

- Familiarity with fiber optic and wireless communication networks used in traffic management systems.

- Skills in configuring and troubleshooting networked traffic signal controllers, including adaptive and coordinated signal timing systems.

- Knowledge of security best practices for transportation and critical infrastructure networks.

- Understanding of network resiliency strategies for real-time transportation data transmission.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Extensive background in technical team management and development.

- Strong foundation in Network Operations.

- Knowledge and understanding of Dynamic Routing Protocols (IP, OSPF, and BGP).

- Familiarity with Intelligent Traffic Systems.

- Experience with Software-Defined Networking (SDN).

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal and collaboration abilities.

Up to $81.00/hour pending experience
