Job Title: Part-Time Network Engineer

Job Summary:

World Services is seeking a skilled Network Engineer with 5+ years of senior-level experience to support our federal client in managing their network infrastructure. The engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining network solutions, as well as providing expert support for daily operations. The ideal candidate will have experience working with major network vendors, including Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Juniper Networks, and a solid understanding of various network architectures (WAN, LAN, SD-WAN, etc.).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Network Design and Engineering: Develop, maintain, and enhance network architecture based on industry best practices. Assist with the modernization of network infrastructure, including transitioning to cloud-based solutions and implementing Software-Defined WAN (SD-WAN). Recommend configuration changes based on performance analysis and evolving business needs.
  • Network Operations Support: Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for network issues, including troubleshooting and resolving incidents related to network performance and connectivity.
  • Vendor Collaboration: Coordinate with third-party vendors and maintenance providers to troubleshoot, replace, and upgrade network hardware and software. Track deployment of network security devices and maintain inventory records including serial numbers, in line with asset management practices.
  • Security Management: Ensure network devices comply with NIST 800-53 standards and enterprise security guidance. Maintain uniform firewall rule sets and centralized management of security changes. Support access control configurations, port and protocol settings. Monitor and remediate failures in network security devices. Coordinate all security configuration changes through the Change Control Board (CCB) process.
  • Cloud Integration: Assist with the ongoing migration to cloud environments, including supporting Azure components and ensuring secure configurations.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain network documentation, including standard configurations, network diagrams, and performance reports.
  • Patch & Configuration Management: Monitor firmware and software patch releases for network devices. Evaluate and apply updates in accordance with the defined Configuration Management (CM) process. Ensure consistency of device configurations with established security baselines.
  • Disaster Recovery: Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity in case of network failures.
  • Remote Access Support: Provide remote access management including VPNs, remote desktop, access portals, and published applications for approved staff.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • 5+ years of senior-level experience in network engineering,
  • 3+ years of experience with different types of networks and architectures including WAN, LAN, SD-WAN, SD-branch, and so on.
  • 3+ years of experience with network hardware and software from vendors such as Cisco, Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Juniper Networks.
  • Public Trust Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications in Cisco (CCNA), Palo Alto, Fortinet, or Juniper Networks.
Working Hours:
  • Flexible part-time hours with the ability to work remotely with occasional onsite work.
  • On-call support may be required for urgent incidents outside of normal business hours.
Location: Remote (occasional on-site work will be required at the customer's facility in Washington, DC)

Position Type: Part-Time with full time option

Pay: $40-45/ hour
