We are seeking a motivated and skilled Intermediate Network Engineer to join our IT infrastructure team in the New York region. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in network engineering and a solid foundation in routing, switching, security, and cloud networking. This position is critical to maintaining and optimizing our enterprise network infrastructure, ensuring high
availability, security, and performance across all locations.

This is a hands-on technical role that requires experience with Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, or Palo Alto networks, as well as cloud-based and SD-WAN technologies. The role involves network design, implementation, troubleshooting, and security enforcement in collaboration with senior engineers and IT teams.

Key Responsibilities:
Network Infrastructure & Support
  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless networks in a multivendor environment.
  • Support and optimize LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, and Wi-Fi networks for high availability and performance.
  • Maintain and enhance VPN solutions for secure remote access.
  • Monitor network health, diagnose connectivity issues, and escalate complex problems when necessary.
  • Work with ISPs and vendors to troubleshoot external connectivity and performance issues.
  • Assist in capacity planning, network expansion, and infrastructure upgrades.
Network Security & Compliance
  • Configure and enforce firewall rules, intrusion detection/prevention (IDS/IPS), and network segmentation to protect company assets.
  • Ensure compliance with industry security standards (e.g., NIST, PCI-DSS, SOC2) and internal policies.
  • Perform vulnerability assessments and remediation to mitigate security risks.
  • Assist in configuring secure access policies, VLANs, ACLs, and authentication mechanisms.
Cloud & Emerging Technologies
  • Support and troubleshoot cloud networking including VPC, VPN, and hybrid network connectivity.
  • Work with SD-WAN technologies to optimize connectivity between branch offices and cloud environments.
  • Support VoIP, video conferencing, and QoS policies for unified communications.
Documentation & Collaboration
  • Maintain detailed network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (system admins, cybersecurity, DevOps) to ensure seamless network operations.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for network troubleshooting and incident response.
Required Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Network Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of routing and switching protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP, STP, VLANs, HSRP, VRRP).
  • Experience configuring and managing firewalls.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting network connectivity in complex environments.
  • Familiarity with wireless networks, including enterprise Wi-Fi solutions.
  • Understanding of VPN technologies (IPSec, SSL VPN, MPLS).
  • Working knowledge of cloud networking (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and hybrid environments.
  • Basic knowledge of network security best practices and Zero Trust models.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
  • Certifications: CCNP, PCNSE, NSE4 Certified Advanced Networking.
  • Experience with network automation using Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
  • Familiarity with SIEM, SOAR, and network monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, SolarWinds).
  • Knowledge of VoIP and collaboration platforms.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York, Starr Insurance Companies is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets: experience and training: licensure and certifications: and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $95,000-$115,000.
