Summary:

Meta's global network built with cutting edge platforms and technologies is looking for Network Engineers to join the core Optical Network Engineering team. This team is responsible for designing, building and operating one of the world's largest Optical Networks. Network design, data analysis, and automation are keys to meeting our demands; In this role, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of the network, drive into production - at scale - the latest technologies and platforms; you will be responsible for conceiving, developing, and deploying software, network systems and tools that improve reliability and efficiency of our global network.

Required Skills:

Network Engineer, Optical (PhD) Responsibilities:

  1. Design, deploy and operate Meta's multi-vendor backbone and edge networks.
  2. Develop plans that enable production network build, migration, and decommission operations.
  3. Build tools in support of network design, data analysis, and production execution.
  4. Develop and update documentation, work cross-functionally to develop and enhance Meta's network design and production workflows.
  5. Analyze data to diagnose and identify root causes of network and tooling issues.
  6. Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resources.
  7. Together with your engineering team, you will share an on-call rotation and be an escalation contact for service incidents.
  8. Partner alongside the best engineers in the industry on the coolest stuff around - the code and systems you work on will be in production and used by billions of users all around the world.
Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  2. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Network Engineering, or similar technical discipline. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  3. Coding experience in at least one higher-level language (e.g., Python, C , Go, etc.), using data structures and algorithms
  4. Experience developing, provisioning or understanding network device configuration for at least one major vendor or any Linux-based system
  5. Experience in developing or using networking related software, frameworks, and APIs
  6. Working knowledge of Optical layer (ROADM, coherent transponders, and optical network components) and/or working knowledge of IP layer (TCP/IP, IPv6 and any of BGP, OSPF, ISIS or similar routing protocols)
  7. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

  1. Experience with developing software in the context of building and/or operating large scale networking systems
  2. Experience working on multi-team, multi-geography cross-functional projects, involving documenting and implementing network designs or tools
  3. Experience with troubleshooting problems as relates to at least one networking system or platform (Optical, IP, Web servers, load balancers, storage systems etc)
Public Compensation:

$117,000/year to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
