Job Overview:
The Network Engineer is responsible for the administration of the McCormick Place network infrastructure and computing environment. The Network Engineer will plan, support, maintain, and plan for future modifications for the network and computing environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Responsible for all facets of managing network, locally based software, and related services.
- Ensuring that the administrative network maintains sufficient capacity and performance to meet current and evolving needs.
- Works with Director of Technology Services to recommend the optimal network and computing environment for McCormick Place administration and ensure ongoing performance and reliability.
- Troubleshoots issues with the network and computing environment and works to resolution internally or with the assistance of outside vendors.
- Responsible for staying abreast of current security threats and maintaining the integrity of the network and overall environment and protecting stored data from destruction or theft.
- Working with the Director of Technology Services to educate all personnel on current and emerging potential threats.
- Acts as a resource to Desktop Technicians to help them resolve issues that exceed their defined scope of responsibility as required.
- Coordinates with other Technology Services team members on issues or projects which require coordinated response.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or related experience.
- Minimum of five years increasing responsibility in an environment of similar size and complexity.
- Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on, verifiable experience configuring, implementing, supporting, administering, and managing network hardware, devices, and software within a Microsoft infrastructure framework and Windows Server environment.
- Associate or bachelor's Degree - preferably in Information Systems/Technology or Computer Science.
- 3+ years' experience in Information Technology, MS Windows NT network administration, helpdesk, or other computer technical positions.
- Strong knowledge and hands on work experience with:
- Network operations, software, and hardware support
- Networking- specifically TCP/IP, subnetting, routing protocols, and ACLs
- Email standards (SMTP, POP3, IMAP)
- Telecommunications Systems
- Must be available on an on-call rotational basis - 24hrs per day, 7 days per week; must be willing to carry mobile phone at all times.
- Some travel is required.
- Excellent customer service skills including initial contact through problem resolution.
- Strong problem-solving skills: ability to visualize a problem and think abstractly to work through and solve it.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Microsoft certification a plus (MCSE).
NOTE: Selection will be based on an evaluation of applicants' training, skills and experience.
Pay
$70,000 - $80,000
