Executive Summary: HRUCKUS seeks a Network Engineer (S-NET) for a role supporting the Department of the Navy in Annapolis Junction, MD.


Position Description: The Network Engineer will review and analyze the existing network architecture and provide designs for current and modern WAN/MAN/LAN technologies.


Position Job Duties:

  • Recommend best practices such as SDN, Intent-based networking, network segmentation protocols, etc., to improve the existing architecture and meet new networking requirements
  • Design telecommunications circuit specifications
  • Identify the need for routers, switches, and encryption devices to support enterprise services
  • Deliver service catalog items for automatically provisioning network configurations to deliver Infrastructure-as-Code
  • Develop and maintain network architecture specifications and artifacts
  • Designs and plans network communications systems
  • Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture
  • Conducts cost/benefit analysis and provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements
  • Conducts testing of network design
  • Responsible for monitoring network hardware operations to ensure correctly set configuration options
  • Plans implementation of enhancements and upgrades to the network
  • Advises network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations
  • Maintains technical expertise in all network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing areas, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • Evaluate and report on new communications technologies to enhance the capabilities of the network

Position Qualifications:

  • TS/SCI level clearance is required
  • 8-10+ years of experience with a BS/BA, or 6-8+ years with a MS/MA, or 3-5+ years with a PhD
  • 2 years of Cisco experience; proven expertise with Cisco network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, unified communications equipment
  • Proven experience in VMware environments
  • Proven experience in virtual and physical Internet Protocol, Fiber Channel networks, and routing protocols
  • Proven experience designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting LAN, WAN, and low bandwidth networks protected by network encryptors
  • Proficiency in Automation Tools (e.g., Ansible, Python, or similar)
  • Expertise in Software-Defined Networking (SDN)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Familiarity with Agile Methodologies for iterative network project management
  • Experience with Change Management Processes to ensure smooth network updates and configurations
  • Knowledge of DISN (Department of Defense Information Network) or CANES (Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services) systems
  • Proficiency in Visio or Similar Diagramming Tools for network design documentation

Certification Requirement:

  • Information Assurance Certifications consistent with the 8570 IAT Level III

Desired:

  • Professional certification in Cisco, VMware, and/or ITIL is desired
