Network Engineer (College of Health Sciences):
The Network Engineer for the College of Health Sciences is a Level-II member of the Network team within the Infrastructure Product Solutions Group, assigned to the Information Technology Department. This role requires a professional with 2-5+ years of experience in information technology, data communication, and voice communication systems, projects, and operations. The Network Engineer is responsible for providing expert-level networking communication system support services, serving as the point person for the Network team for the St. Luke's College of Health Sciences. They will consult and recommend core designs and support for IT Strategic Planning related to the College of Health Sciences initiatives for St. Luke's University Health Network, and the Network team in general.
Work Schedule and Availability:
The general work schedule is an 8-hour period covering primary business hours Monday through Friday between 7:00 am-6:00 pm. Support hours may be adjusted as required for major system events, operational and disaster recovery situations, and/or project implementations. This will require periodic non-business hour work (i.e., early mornings, evenings, nights) flexed to meet healthcare customer service demands. Due to the 24x7x365 nature of a healthcare organization. The Network Engineer is expected to maintain a reasonable level of availability during non-business hours. They will also be required to rotate periodically under the Incident Management Program on the IT On Call Support team.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of performance in customer service and proactive interactions with customers (internal and external).
- Work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, leading peers and junior technical staff with project and operational maintenance support.
- Provides Expert level consultation/recommendations to IT department and organizational leadership on for IT Strategic planning relating to Network Engineering initiatives.
- Develop, implement, enhance, maintain, and ensure the integrity and stability of all data communication systems and related services within the organization.
- Works well with Solutions Architects, Engineering peers, junior technical staff and Technology Vendors with R&D, strategic and tactical planning, design, development and deployment.
- Conducts detailed analysis, defining standards and documenting technology requirements for infrastructure design, planning, funding, implementation and customer use.
- Investigates various technologies, engages with key Vendors and partners to negotiate solutions and options for appropriate product pricing.
- Assist in optimization of the Network through development of programs that take advantage of new functionality and enhancements.
- Oversees/Tests/implements under Change Management program all Network Engineering releases/upgrades and hardware refresh cycles.
- Assist technical teams through Network Engineering projects, working closely with Project Managers, Architects, Engineering Peers and voice technology customers.
- Accepts assignments, coordinates and install Data Communication Equipment, systems and circuits as required.
- Work with cross functional teams and St. Luke's Customer, providing education on Data Communication functionality and configuration of new tools to increase Customer productivity with use.
- Provides integration services across varying technology platforms conducting appropriate research, testing and development of associated project related integration requirements.
- Performs expert level diagnostic assessment fixing defects and providing resolution of major Data Communication system related maladies.
- Produces procedural documentation for Operational and Disaster Recovery functions.
- Assists in defining skill competency levels for operational support and develops related standard operating service documentation for operational teams.
- Rotates periodically with Incident Management 24x7x365 hospital On Call support team.
- Functions as an integral part of the Information Technology Department staff.
- Maintains current knowledge of technology by attending appropriate continuing education training, seminars and reading related periodicals.
- Complies with Regulatory requirements, Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee and patient information, environmental safety, building codes and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
- Demonstrates Performance Improvement in areas as appropriate: Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety procedures.
PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS: Sitting for up to 7 hours per day, 4 hours at a time; standing for up to 7 hours per day, 4 hours at a time; walking for up to 2 hours a day, 1 hour at a time. Requires crouching, kneeling, and lifting of objects weighing up to 60 pounds, pushing objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Requires hand and finger dexterity to perform repairs of small equipment and to use computer equipment. Seeing as it relates to general, near, color, and peripheral vision. Hearing as it relates to normal and telephone conversations.
EDUCATION: Military/Vocational Technical School & Certifications; 8 Work years and/or
associates/bachelor's degree is Required. Special Certifications/Degrees in Electrical Engineering - Fiber Optics/Low Voltage; Wire System Design/Management (or related field) are preferred.
Certification: Cisco Certification is preferred.
Training and Experience preferred: 2 - 5+ years of data communications support experience. 1 - 3+ years construction project experience in a healthcare setting. 2 - 5+ years of Network data/voice/wireless/VOIP experience. 1 - 3+ years' experience associated to Cable Plant Infrastructure Management, Fiber Optics, low voltage, Cable Plant management. 3 - 5 years' experience in healthcare environment.
Application Experience: 2 - 3+ years Cisco IOS/CLI experience is required. 1 - 3+ years Cisco Wireless experience is required. 1 - 3+ years Cisco VPN experience is required. 1 - 3+ years network monitoring experience is required. 2 - 5+ years MS Visio and MS Office Products is preferred.
Hardware Experience: 1 - 3+ years' Experience with data switches and wireless access points is preferred. 3 - 5+ years PC and Phone experience is preferred.
Network Engineer, College of Health Sciences additional responsibilities: - First priority and primary responsibility will be the College of Health Sciences network resource

- Troubleshooting connectivity problems for the College IT Infrastructure
