Position Summary
The Network Engineer III will design and sustain an efficient, secure, redundant, and high-performing network. Reporting to the Manager of Network Services, this position will work with a team of technicians and guide them in diagnosing issues, enhancing network performance, and modernizing and optimizing the university's network. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving abilities along with comprehensive expertise in network administration and cloud networking architecture. A passion for security and data protection is also essential, as building networks that effectively meet customer requirements is paramount.
Position Specific Accountabilities
1. Support the operation of routers, switches, and all network-related equipment; facilitate design, installation, upgrades, reporting, and maintenance of network infrastructure.
2. Manage telecommunications systems and applications while adhering to established practices for problem analysis.
3. Address network incidents through effective troubleshooting and conduct root cause analyses when required.
4. Maintain comprehensive documentation, including network diagrams, procedures, and audit responses.
5. Assist in planning large-scale systems projects by conducting vendor comparisons and cost analyses.
6. Engage in the configuration and maintenance of both physical and logical network elements, contributing to the design of network architecture and infrastructure strategies.
7. Provide expertise in optimizing complex network and security frameworks to enhance performance and reliability while overseeing the installation, modification, and upkeep of network systems.
8. This position requires excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to create thorough documentation of all network components.
9. Participate in the planning and design of network solutions for various infrastructure projects, potentially aiding in the development of network architecture, LAN/WAN, and cloud (AWS/Azure) configurations.
10. Demonstrate strong analytical, diagnostic, problem-solving, and communication abilities, with a capacity to collaborate effectively in a team setting and mentor less experienced engineers.
11. Availability for off-hours work or on-call duties is essential.
12. Represent LMU and the Information Technology Services department within the University, community, and professional organizations and/or associations, serve on or chair committees as needed.
13. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requisite Qualifications
• Typically, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics is expected, accompanied by a strong understanding of networking principles.
• A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required, along with a solid grasp of networking protocols and virtualized environments. CCNA or CCNP certification is mandatory, while CCIE or CCIA certification is preferred.
• Deep understanding and experience with routing protocols (such as BGP, OSPF) and network protocols (such as IPv4, IPv6, NAT, Multicast, Spanning Tree)
• Knowledge of Cisco routing and switching hardware platforms architecture, forwarding, and data planes.
• Strong experience with Palo Alto firewalls; knowledge of PA tools like Panorama and Global Protect to implement device groups and templates to make changes to firewalls is desired
• Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, ARM templates)
• Experience with hybrid cloud environments and multi-cloud networking strongly preferred.
• Experience with implementing site-to-site tunnels
• Strong experience with Cisco products, such as Identity Service Engine (ISE)
• Experience with DHCP/DNS tools and with monitoring and alerting systems
• Experience deploying, troubleshooting, and maintaining network hardware and software for one or more vendors: Cisco, Palo Alto, etc. / NX-OS, IOS-XE, PAN-OS
• Experience with open-source tools facilitating the management of network infrastructure services

Salary range
$97,600.00 - $131,700.00 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
