The
Network Engineer II plays a key role in planning, implementing, and maintaining LAN, WAN, wireless, and cloud network infrastructure. Working under moderate supervision, this role ensures the uptime, performance, security, and resource availability of networks are managed effectively within operational guidelines. The position also involves automating routine tasks using scripting to enhance and configure infrastructure software.
The
Network Engineer II is responsible for monitoring and supporting network infrastructure, troubleshooting issues to restore functionality, and installing and configuring physical and virtual network hardware. The role includes leading assigned projects, communicating progress to stakeholders, and maintaining comprehensive documentation of network environments and procedures. As a subject matter expert in one or more technical areas, the Network Engineer II contributes to advancing network reliability and efficiency through technical expertise and scripting capabilities.
Key Responsibilities: - Perform a wide range of network and wireless administration duties including installations, debugging, maintenance, upgrades, and general support for Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, and Palo Alto network equipment.
- Perform work with TCP/IP, Vlans, Ethernet, SONET, Radius, switching, routing and routing protocols (BGP/OSPF), 802.1Q, and DNS.
- Manage & troubleshoot network, wireless network, and Internet connectivity throughout the organization.
- Plans, recommends, and assists in the design of local or remote computer systems, oversees the day-to-day operation of the computer networks including LAN-to-LAN/WAN, Wireless, and SDWAN systems
- Evaluate, test, and deploy all software and hardware upgrades to the networking and wireless infrastructure.
- Assist in the configuration and deployment of core and peripheral network and wireless devices, which will require continuous learning of new devices.
- Proactive monitoring of all network and wireless devices, services, and servers using a combination of tools to ensure high availability and SLA's.
- Collect and review network and wireless utilization data for capacity and planning purposes
- Conduct security and device upgrade patching to network and wireless devices.
- Assist in developing, implementing, testing, and maintaining disaster recovery plans.
- Work closely with the fellow tech team members to provide end-user support and issue resolution.
- Rigorously create and maintain documentation for all processes and procedures.
- Collaborate with and support the work of other staff engaged in similar functions
- Coordinate with the rest of the IT team to meet the team objectives.
- Provide emergency 24 x 7 on-call support on a rotating basis.
Qualifications and Skills: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent network and wireless work experience.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in Network and Wireless Network Administration
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with networking and wireless networking equipment specifically, including maintenance and upgrades
- Hands-on experience with and management of Cisco, Aruba, and Palo Alto.
- Hands-on experience with network and wireless monitoring tools.
- Strong knowledge of networking, including TCP/IP, Vlans, Ethernet, SONET, switching, routing and routing protocols (BGP/OSPF), 802.1Q, and DNS.
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to research & solve complex issues independently.
- Willingness and ability to learn new skills and apply them as needed.
- Ability to effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organization.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer and internal information.
