Description Summary: The Network Engineer I (NE I) plays a pivotal role in optimizing and managing voice and data networking solutions. With advanced technical skill and expertise, this position is responsible for the seamless operations of critical Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), and other networking environments. The NE I is a vital contributor in both strategic planning and tactical execution of networking operations.
The NE I will handle systems integration, design, and provide tier III technical support for network systems. Daily tasks include network provisioning, performance tuning, error tracking, data movement, software configurations, and addressing interoperability issues. Collaboration with a cross-functional team is essential, as the NE I will also offer training and direction to junior technical staff involved in first and second level support tasks.
Responsibilities: - Strategy & Planning: Coordinate and plan the future state of the organization's networks, ensuring alignment with the information systems vision. Manage projects, service requests, and routine assignments to maintain optimal network performance.
- System Engineering: Analyze critical network configurations and evaluate proposed system acquisitions, contributing to decisions that enhance integration and minimize disruptions to operations.
- System Integration: Integrate new network components and assess availability, ensuring optimal operation within the existing environment. Verify the installation and configuration of network components.
- System Management: Design and oversee the collection of data and statistics related to network performance, administrating updates and patches to maintain system integrity. Monitor system performance and address any reported issues effectively.
- Training & Certification: Stay current with internetworking technologies through continuous education and certification.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or a related field, or equivalent experience (8 years) required.
- Extensive knowledge of Local Area Networks (LAN) and Access Networks:
- Advanced experience with multiple routing protocols such as EIGRP, BGP, and OSPF.
- Proficient in designing highly redundant networks using HSRP or CSM.
- Advanced knowledge in LAN protocol management and IP networking.
- Experience with network hardware including Aruba/Cisco routers, switches, Firewalls, and SD Wan technologies is highly desirable.
- Comprehensive understanding of multiple platforms (Windows, Linux, VMware) and networking protocols.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of experience within a large corporate systems environment.
- At least five (5) years focused on network engineering, design, and support of sizable LAN and WAN infrastructures.
- Experience in a healthcare systems environment is a plus.
- Preferred certifications include Cisco & Aruba Certification and Ekahau or Air Magnet Certification.
