At Severn Trent, we're embarking on an exciting £415m project to replace 870 miles of old water pipes across the Midlands - and we want you to be part of it. The new pipes we're installing will last for up to 100 years. This is the biggest investment in water infrastructure in the region in a decade, and it's set to improve water quality, reduce leaks, and make our water supply more reliable for millions of people.

To bring this vision to life, we're creating new jobs across the region. Whether you're based in Birmingham, Nottingham, or anywhere in between, we've got opportunities for you to help shape the future of water in the Midlands.

Want to be part of this transformative journey?

We are looking for a Water Construction Technician to work as part of a team to successfully deliver Mains Renewal construction activity at a specific site within one of the four regions (North, South, East, West).

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

As a Water Construction Technician, your key role will be to operate assets on the network on behalf of the construction team while carrying out large-scale Mains Renewal work at specific locations.

You will assist and support the Network Construction Manager in scoping and delivering Mains Renewal schemes within your area of accountability and will work alongside the Lead Operative to deliver on-site activity.

You will undertake significant, large-scale construction activity on-site, involving activities such as excavation, installation, testing, and commissioning of new mains and assets.

This role is crucial in delivering large-scale construction work where potential risks are significant. You will be expected to deliver the work within set budgets, working alongside the Network Control Manager.

This role requires a 42-hour work week, Monday to Friday, starting at 7:30 AM and ending at 4:30 PM, with a half-hour early finish at 4:00 PM on Fridays.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Undertake pre-site checks with the Network Construction Manager, identify and health check key assets, and conduct detailed surveys on DMA renewal options.
  2. Communicate with Network Control at critical stages, such as valve operations for trunk mains. Support the Lead Operative and construction team in activities like pipe fusing, service laying, and overlanding.
  3. Perform valving due diligence, chlorination, and sampling of mains and services according to SOPs and SSOW.
  4. Carry out operational activities such as flushing, cleansing of mains and hydrants, and oversee installation of pressure control valves, managing pressure, flow, and disinfection, including high-risk valve operations.
What You'll Bring to the Role

The ideal candidate will have a full driving license, ideally possess National Water Hygiene and NRSWA qualifications, and have significant utility industry experience.

You should have good communication skills, the ability to build relationships, and experience in risk identification.

We value the right character, positivity, and caring attitude as much as technical skills.

We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, believing that varied experiences help us serve our communities better. We seek individuals who are proactive and eager to make a difference.

What's in It for You

Working here is more than just a job. You can build a career with Severn Trent, supported by a range of benefits and award-winning training.

Perks include:

  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays (option to buy/sell up to 5 days)
  • Annual bonus scheme (up to £1,500)
