Network Boundary Engineer Location: Colorado Springs, CO or Huntsville, AL - ONSITE
Reports To: Network Security Manager / IT Director Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Boundary Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. The Boundary Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of our enterprise network perimeter infrastructure, with a strong focus on security and reliability. This role requires a deep understanding of networking principles, routing protocols, firewalls, and web application traffic patterns. The ideal candidate will be a customer-focused individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Key Responsibilities:
• Design, implement, and maintain network perimeter infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and other network devices.
• Configure and troubleshoot network routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
• Plan, configure, and maintain firewall infrastructure.
• Monitor network performance and identify areas for improvement at the network edge.
• Troubleshoot network issues and provide timely resolution related to perimeter devices.
• Implement and maintain network security policies and procedures.
• Manage and maintain PKI infrastructure.
• Ensure network compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Collaborate with other IT teams to support business applications and services.
• Document network configurations and procedures. Qualifications:
• Foundations:
o Strong understanding of the OSI model and IP protocol stack.
o Strong initiative, attention to detail, and communication skills (written and verbal).
o Customer-focused approach to problem-solving.
• Routing:
o Strong understanding of network switching and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) as they pertain to Netscalers, Cisco, Citrix, and Firepower.
o Minimum of 5 years of experience in enterprise routing and switching.
• Firewall:
o Minimum of 3 years of experience in firewall planning, configuration, and maintenance.
o Experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls preferred.
• Security:
o Strong understanding of PKI infrastructure.
o Understanding of security, audit, and compliance principles.
• Application:
o Strong understanding of Domain Name System (DNS).
o Strong understanding of web applications and traffic patterns.
o Experience with application load balancers (NetScaler, F5) preferred. Education and Certifications:
• One of the following:
o HS Diploma (or GED) and 8 years of general experience
o Associate's degree and 7 years of general experience
o Bachelor's degree and 5 years of general experience
• 8570 certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP, etc.)
• Active Secret Clearance. Work Environment:
• May require on-call support and occasional off-hours work for maintenance or incident response.
Role may involve working in secure or classified environments, depending on organization.
