Field Service Technician - Electrical Testing
Location: Austin, TX
We're looking for an experienced and driven Field Service Technician - Electrical Testing to join a team of professionals dedicated to delivering high-quality service in electrical power systems. In this role, you'll travel to industrial and commercial sites to perform testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting on a range of electrical distribution equipment. What You'll Be Doing:
- Travel to client sites to test, inspect, troubleshoot, and commission low, medium, and high-voltage (480V-600kV) electrical systems.
- Perform diagnostic testing on transformers using Doble, TTR, insulation resistance, and other methods.
- Conduct testing on instrument transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear.
- Test and calibrate electromechanical and solid-state protective relays.
- Carry out cable testing including Tan Delta, VLF, Power Factor, and DC Hipot.
- Diagnose and repair automatic transfer switches and metering systems.
- Rotate on-call duties and respond to client emergencies with urgency and professionalism.
What We're Looking For:
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in field testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of switchgear and power systems.
- A background in Electrical Power & Controls or Electrical Engineering is preferred - technical degrees or equivalent military training (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or Navy Seabees) are highly regarded.
- Familiarity with PowerDB or similar platforms is a plus.
- Strong technical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data entry, and internet-based tools.
- NETA Certification (Level I-IV) or equivalent preferred.
Who You Are:
- Comfortable working independently in the field and traveling regionally (up to 40%+), including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Able to lift up to 75 lbs., work on your feet, and perform physically active tasks safely.
- Safety-conscious and knowledgeable about electrical safety procedures (OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, MSHA preferred-training available).
- A valid driver with a clean driving record and able to pass a drug screening and background check.
- You're responsive, detail-oriented, and committed to getting the job done right the first time.
