Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients through interviews, health history, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies.
- Recognizes deviations from normal in physical assessments and works collaboratively to formulate treatment plans.
- Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessments, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and admission and discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
- Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of patients.
- Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served, demonstrating necessary knowledge and skills.
- Creates a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
- Maintains awareness of legal issues and patients' rights.
- Identifies, analyzes, and resolves patient care issues to improve patient outcomes.
- Documents all patient interactions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintains provision of preventive health services.
- Participates in daily multidisciplinary rounds.
- Performs detailed history and physical examinations, and documents inpatient H&P and discharge summaries (must be reviewed and countersigned by supervising medical staff within 24 hours; cannot substitute physician H&P).
- Writes or dictates reports and progress notes appropriately in the medical record.
- Triages patients effectively.
- Shares clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel, collaborating with other healthcare disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Ensures compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
- Acts as a role model and resource for staff.
- Participates in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Establishes relationships with other health-related professionals within the community.
- Communicates effectively in both verbal and written forms with diverse populations, including physicians, staff, patients, and families.
Qualifications
Education/Training
MN, MSN, DNP, PhD, or DNS degree in nursing required.
Licensure/Certification
- ARNP license in the state.
- After July 1, 2006, applicants are required to have national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board.
- Current BLS certification required.
Additional Preferences
At least one year of NP NICU experience required.
