We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Quality Assurance department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for a NDT Inspector J1-J4. The hours are M-F .

Shift : ALL

Security Clearance: No Clearance
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE:
Performs predetermined methods, operations, setups and prescribed specifications for QA inspections and tests required to substantiate conformance to drawings, specifications, and contract requirements. Conducts surveillance audits in all phases and stages during ship repair.

POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)

Technical/Associate Degree, preferably Q.A./Marine-related or equivalent, or 4 to 6 years of Quality Assurance inspection experience or equivalent trade related. Certified as a Non-Destructive Test Inspector Level II (includes VT, PT, MT, and UT) to NAVSEA TECHPUB requirements. If not certified, must be able to be certified if assigned these duties. Knowledge of ship construction and repair procedures including welding, structural, machinery, electrical piping, ventilation and familiarity with various measuring instruments related to inspections.

POSITION DEMANDS (Required Experience)

Must be able to perform the essentials of the position including the ability to work at heights, enter tanks, voids and cofferdams to perform competent person duties.

Must be able to climb vertical ladders, work around moving machinery and perform tasks while using a sky climber, scissor lift and/or condor.

Ability to read and understand blueprints, military standard/specifications, Regulatory Body Requirements, and Shipbuilding Specifications.

Possess a good general knowledge of ship repair procedures and test requirements

Skilled in blueprint reading, precision instrument utilization, and technical manual interpretation.

Able to set, self-calibrate and use assigned testing, inspection and QA instruments.

Fundamental problem-solving skills. Able to use basic Lean and Six Sigma principles to provide recommended solutions to identified or perceived problems.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Computer literate with knowledge of NASSCO and mainframe computer.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, decisiveness, resourcefulness, and good judgment in dealing with others

GUIDELINES FOR OA INSPECTOR NDT JOURNEYPERSON 4 (QA NDT INSPECTOR)

Must meet all Journeyperson QA NDT Inspector 3 requirements.

Must be able to qualify as a Level II Non-Destructive Testing Inspector in the UT shear wave within 6 months of assignment NDT process and must be qualified in all

Other NDT areas: VT, LPT, MT, and UT- thickness readings).

Must be proficient in reviewing and following NDT procedures, work specifications, drawings, technical manuals and regulatory body requirements.

Must be able to generate NDT reports documenting the results of inspections.

Must be able to draft and submit required reports and condition found reports (CFR) as required.

Must be able to identify Departures from Specification (DFS) and provide all Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) required to draft and submit a DFS for acceptance.

Must be able to conduct Correction Action Request (CAR) surveillance for close out.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must have excellent personal skills working with others.

Must have advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and must have basic skills with Access Data Base and Project

Must be able to conduct NDT training to Jl-J3 NDT inspectors in the execution of work.

Must be able to set, self-calibrate and use assigned testing, inspection and QA instruments.

Must be able to plan and mange a system for control of non-conforming product and implementing corrective and preventative action.

Must be able to use basic Lean and Six Sigma principles to provide recommended solutions to identified or perceived problems

Must be able to perform quality system audits in accordance with contract, NAVSEA, and regulatory body requirements

Must be able to set-up and close out jobs, including TIPs, filing for OQE records, checkpoint notifications, etc.

Must have excellent personal skills working with others

JOURNEYPERSON 3 (QA NDT INSPECTOR)

Must meet all Journeyperson QA NDT Inspector 2 requirements.

Must be able to qualify as a Level II Non-Destructive Testing Inspector in the following NDT processes:(, MT, UT thickness readings) within 3 months of assignment and must be fully qualified as a Level II VT and LPT NDT Inspector.

Must be proficient in reviewing and following NDT procedures, work specifications, drawings, technical manuals and regulatory body requirements.

Must be able to generate NDT reports documenting the results of inspections.

Must be able to read and interpret the T&I Plan, and attached applicable OQE as required.

Must have working knowledge of: Request for Contract Change (RCC), Engineering Service Request (ESR), Condition Found Report (CFR) or other work authorizing document.

Must be able to identify Departures from Specification (DFS), and when a DFS is required.

Must be considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for conducting QA inspections.

Must be able to write, submit, and answer Corrective / Preventative Action Request (CAR/PAR).

Must have good computer skills with a knowledge of MS Office

Must have the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, decisiveness, resourcefulness and good judgement in dealing with others.

Must be able to conduct training to Jl-J2 ship repair inspectors in the execution of work.

Must have basic knowledge of Quality System Audit requirements.

Must be able to perform his/her job in the appropriate time frame without on-site supervisor.

Must be able to conduct in work process surveillance of all types of repair and modernization work, safety, environmental, and various work practices.

Must be able to identify defects in workmanship and the appropriate actions required to correct the defects.

Must have knowledge of quality assurance principles and quality techniques.

JOURNEYPERSON 2 (QA NDT INSPECTOR)

Must meet all Journeyperson QA NDT Inspector Ship Repair 1 requirements.

Must be able to qualify as a Level II Non-Destructive Testing Inspector in the following NDT processes: (VT and LPT) within one months of assignment.

Must be proficient in reviewing and following NDT procedures, work specifications, drawings, technical manuals and regulatory body requirements to ensure all requirements are completed within the specified criteria.

Must be able to generate NDT reports documenting the results of inspections.

Must have knowledge and be able to establish and maintain quality records to demonstrate conformance to specified requirements and effective operation of the quality program.

Must be able to provide guidance and training to J1 inspectors in the performance of their duties, when assigned.

Must have basic knowledge of: Request for Contract Change (RCC), Engineering Service Request (ESR), Condition Found Report (CFR) Departure from Specification (DFS) or other work authorizing document.

Must have basic knowledge of the Corrective Action Request I Preventative Action Request (CAR/ PAR).

Must have the ability to determine the quality of work performed by other trades and its compliance with contract requirements.

Must have good verbal and written communication skills.

Must be able to ensure all QA inspection equipment being used is calibrated and is certified in accordance with the company's calibration process/programs.

Must be able to identify problems and discuss solutions.

Must be able to perform his/her job in the appropriate time frame with little superv1s1on.

Must be able to identify questionable workmanship and seek guidance on the actions required to correct.

Must be able to read and interpret blue prints, and drawings.

Must be able to identify and report non-conformances using the NCR process.

Must have basic knowledge of Process Control Procedure/ CWP requirements.

Must have good problem-solving skills.

Must be WAF trained.

JOURNEYPERSON 1 (QA NDT INSPECTOR)

Entry Level Non-Destructive Testing Trainee.

Must acquire NDT Level II VT inspector qualification within three months of assignment.

Must have knowledge in Basic Microsoft applications.

Must be familiar with and with assistance be able to research applicable NAVSEA Standard Items, OSHA standards, and regulatory body regulations, drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.

Must be able to obtain a basic knowledge of the Test and Inspection Plan in order to conduct inspections.

Must have good verbal and written communication skills.

Must be able to assist with conducting in-process inspections to ensure correct materials . click apply for full job details
